Sinistard's 68.8 Acrylic Tank Journal [Photo Intense]

Here is another picture of the mystery anemone. Still tough to tell.

Looks very much like a BTA to me also. Its very bleached out so you will need to feed it regularly to keep it going until it can rebuild its Zoox population. Try soaking food in Selcon to help it with nutrients and vitamins...

The only thing that throws me off on you skimmer pic is the size of your baseboard, either you have 12" tall base board or that is the smallest can of pringles I have ever seen...lol

Thanks and will do on the feeding. It always looks better at night then during the day. I have feed it some frozen formula 1 and mysis shrimp.

If it turns out to be a BTA I hope it makes it until I can get this tank up and running, in my nano it's stuck under PC lighting.

LOL

It's pretty big base board probably 10". The pringles can is normal sized.

How is you tank coming along, I checked your thread a few weeks back and did not see any updates.

yeah, it died pretty fast...probably because it didn't work out. I decided to go with a 120 because of the deal I got on it but once the baby came I realized that there was no way I was going to be able to take care of a SPS tank so I dropped the lights and Tunze, got some NO T5's and put a lionfish and tang in there for now.

I personally like very small grain size, almost like sugar sand. I run CaribSea Fiji Pink but I would think it is going to get blown around in your tank unless you run a crushed coral (which I do not recommend of course).

oolite is very good for shallow sand beds. As long as your outlets/powerheads are positioned well, and after the sand blows around like crazy after awhile, it will all settle down =) grain size won't matter enough when you're pushing over 40x flow over an area of sand. goodluck

Thanks for the info.

I finally got the plumbing done:D

I plumbed the skimmer into my overflow line. Basically I split the line to the sump and ran one line into the skimmer and one straight into the sump. Here are a few pictures of the final plumbing.

George from GEOs reef suggested that I have the line to the skimmer below the line to the sump to insure constant flow into the skimmer. That's why I stick in a Y fitting to angle the sump line up a bit.

The valve on the bottom is to drain off waste that might collect in the line. The PVC below the valve is just for support to keep strain of the bulkhead in the skimmer.

I hope this set up works. I have RO water flowing in right now, it should be full some time tomorrow. Then the final leak test and as long as everything is ok the salt can go in.

I'll get a few more pictures later, I'm off to the store to get some steaks to grill:cool:

I got the fuge light installed.

I am still using the 2 6700k 65w PC bulbs. I stuck the fixture on a hing for easy access but it was probably not needed. After I got it up I had more room to work under the light then I expected. I just need to mount the ballasts and the lights are good to go.

neat hinge... though when would you need *that* much access to a fuge? cool nevertheless =)

LOL, thanks.

After I got it done I was looking and thought why did I do that:rolleyes: I ended up having the lights up higher then I planned so its pretty easy to get in the main chamber of the fuge. On the positive side I made the whole thing out of scraps and the hinge was just laying around so I did not buy anything special.

I may stick frags in the fuge at some point so maybe the extra access will be a plus....maybe

I have around 60g of RO water in the tank now, final leak tests can probably happen tomorrow and if everything is good I can start aquascaping soon.

well redundancy is always good. One day you'll need that extra access and it'll be completely worth it =) since it was scraps anyway that is very cool.

are you water proofing any of your wood? are they pressure treated?

Your mystery anemone is a bubble :) Seems like every bubble I attempted to keep shrivled down to that and it looks IDENTICAL to any bubble I've ever owned after 2-3 months.

It's not pressure treated wood. I am probably just going to paint the stand, maybe poly acrylic. I need to take it down and add a back wall to keep water off my electrical cords anyways.

Thanks for the info, maybe I will be lucky and it will make it.

I was moving my LR from the sump into a trash can so I could work on my plumbing yesterday and I found another one of these anemones in a hole on one of the rocks. It looked even worse then the original one so I did not bother trying to get it out. I also found a 4 or 5 inch brittle star with one leg, the other legs were starting to grow back.

I just painted my basement stand with a wood stain that's waterproof. You can goto Home Depot and ask them to mix in the waterproofer with the wood stain. I'm waiting for mine to dry now and once it does I"ll do a water test.

make sure you sand it down to a 220 grain before the stain. I went with 50 grain at first to get rid of all the nasty gaps and stuff, then I went to 60, 110, then 220 to get it super smooth.

definately need to get things water proofed, or else it will start to rot and may fall and break under the weight of the water.

I am getting ready to pump water up into the main tank. I cleaned and polished out a few scratches I made on the inside while working on the tank with Novus 1, 2 and 3 and I was wondering if I need to rinse the inside of the tank before I fill it. I though I read somewhere that it is safe but I wanted to make sure.

Thanks
