Skimmer for redsea reefer 170!

I just discovered that sump of my new redsea reefer 170 will not accommodate my 9004 tunze skimmer. The water in the reefer 170 sump is only 7.5" or so and the tunze 9004 requires about 9-9.5". I am bummed.

I really like my 9004, super quiet and skims so well.

What do you all suggest? I cannot overemphasize QUITE!

I would get any adjustable DC motor driven skimmer if you looking for quite. Before I modified a Deltec MCE600 to use I ran a Coral Box D300, super quite. I have a RSR Nano and it worked really well.

Good looking skimmer. I read it requires 8-10" water bit of working well for you I guess 7.5" is good?

I know quiet is very difficult. I am an absolute nut about noise. Rarely satisfied.

I ran the Curve 5 from Bubble Magus. Fed extremely heavy and it definitely pulled out some nasty nasty gunk!

Get the Tunze Container 9404... put your 9004 in it... boom done! I have the WS-1 and like it but it's not nearly as quiet as the 9004. I also don't like the way the water pours out of the discharge and splashes. I had to put a sponge below the opening to prevent salt spray.

Never heard of a 9404. I'll go look!

I know this is an old thread. But i really need this info.

Could you kindly provide a long term view of using this skimmer Aquamaxx WS-1 ?
I am thinking of using the same skimmer on my reefer 170.

I've been using the WS-1 for about a year now and it has been a good performer. The footprint is great for the tight REEFER sump. I solved the noise issue by placing a silicone trivet underneath the skimmer to dampen pump vibration, now it's much quieter. I did have a problem with the cup sliding down when it was getting full and overflowing and making a bit of a mess with salt spray. I emailed Aquamaxx, which is just Marine Depot by the way, and they sent me another red O ring in two days. They said to double up on the O rings and the sliding has ceased. Good customer support! For the money I don't think you can go wrong with this skimmer.
