Skimmer Q&A Thread

you would have to raise the other skimmer s up. I always had lighter skimmate from the urchin I had. it still worked. No sense putting a big pump on it to just choke it back.

I had to choke it back b/c it was overflowing (just like my Euro Reef). I have the cup as high as it can get and I don't want to turn the pump down anymore. If I do, it just doesn't skim. Either way it skims wet, or not at all.

Hey, sorry to bother you again. Would the octopus extreme 160 be worth the extra money, or should I just get the 150??

Thanks again

the octo extreme will skim great and is better for a higher load. just a little more finiky but not bad . I would just get the MSX 160 and get the better pinhweel right off the bat.

you will get that until you raise the skimmer. Sounds like you need a skimmer stand.

I wouldn't be able to raise it. Most skimmers will not skim in this deep of H2O. That is one of the reasons why I chose the Urchin. I guess I'll just deal with wet skimming.

No price limit. An Bk 300 deluxe.
jk really at about 40 gallons a couple come to mind.
the tunze 9002 is on the smaller side for that.
The vertex in 100
The bubble magnus NA7
and probably the best of the group the MRC ocean force 100
I say best becuase it will have good performance and is built in the us and is built very solid. All good skimmers.

What has your experience/opinion been of the Aqua EV-240? I just bought one and am running it with a mag 18 on a 180g.

Power hungry pump for ok performance. Cycles a lot of water. and a little noisey.

For the money you have in that skimmer and pump you can get a more efficient Vertex in 280 or a msx 250A

Vertex IN 100 Protein Skimmer in use since July 2009.

For no apparent reason, the skimmer is pushing water to the top of the skimmer. Literally just below the edge. I have not changed any settings, nor have I added any chemicals to the tank.

I did attempt to adjust the "open" "closed" a little 24 hours after this started and I cannot get it to change.

Any ideas?

Thank you

Just got a SRO 5000 ext. last week. Set it up in my sump to break in. Build quality is good, pump seems to pull alot of air. Fills the body with nice dense white foam.
Pump is quiet, has nice long cord.Just breaking in, pulling some tea colored skimate.
Using eheim 1260 to feed, needs to be dialed down alittle to be able to get some adjustment in the neck. Wide open it will skim wet or slightly overflow.Collecton cup comes off easy, no flange to twist, just an o-ring.Unions on all hook ups.Gues that's all the basics.
If you have more specific questons, I can try and answer.

HTH's,

Todd
