Skimmer Q&A Thread

ok so after 4 hours last night i finally have it set up and running. i had to build the platform, cut out a baffle in the sump, and make a bio pellet connector. here is the finished product;

i still am playing with it to see where the best setting is. but i can say that, man it produces a lot of micro bubbles. and i love how easy it is to dial in. i have not found the sweet spot yet but its a breeze to try to adjust.

I can get an RLSS R6-I for 299 brand new shipped. Should I take it or what?

85 gallon tank with a 40 breeder sump, sump only has 26 gallons of water.. I estimate the volume beinga round 90-100 after rock and sand

it depends what batch pump comes with it, several of there dc pump batch's were poor quality. this is what shied me away from them untill they start making the pumps with a better track record.

search the "aquarium specialty" thread, you can read it for your self.

I say yes. There's been some issues with the pumps but its worth a slight chance imo.they're well balanced silent skimmers. Plenty of happy users as well.

You're going to love that skimmer. Skimmate will be dark in no time.

I asked a vendor about the pumps having issues, he said its mainly been on the dc5000 pump, hasnt heard any complaints onn the dc3000 version

I swear I was going to mention that too. Lol I've read a lot of complaints on the larger models. Its funny you mentioned this. Go for it.

I am going with the Bubble Magus Cone 5 for my 40 breeder. Can anyone chime in with how many inches of water the skimmer needs to be in? Thanks!

Sweet skimmer but I got one now.

Custom built GEO beckett. Super stoked about it!

22 inches tall. I'll have to measure the rest
Probably gonna use a panworld on it. Although I like the reeflo blowhole pumps and they seem to get reviews of more quiet. But really I'm open for suggestions
It also comes with a skimmate locker and shut off valve

It is a custom GEO beckett skimmer. Originally we were going to go w 48inches tall. But went with shorter and fatter. That is not completely done yet either. Ill post a picture of it totally assembled.

Guys,

Im getting ready to move from a 120 to a 180. I currently have an ASM G3 and I am of the opinion that maybe its time for a new skimmer? Could you guys throw some opinions on best options my way? The tank will be heavily stocked with fish and I am a keeper of SPS and LPS and Clams.

Looking forward to your responses!

Did anyone have any thoughts here?

If you go with a cone style, it will perform much better then your G3, long time ago I had a G3, then went to a cone style and seen the improvement. There are a ton of options out there. Try and do some research, and get back to us with some of your choices, and then we can help you decide...

A balanced 8" with about 1000 lph of air will work for you. If I remember correctly the g3 is a 6"with the sedra 5000 and i'm sure it worked well on your 120. My favorite 8"skimmers are atb840v2, aquamaxx cone 3, em300, sea side aquatics cs2 or es2. All of these use sicce pumps and every one of these will be a good choice.

how will i know when my skimmer has broken in? i guess im wondering when i will know that this is what i can expect from the new skimmer.
