Skimmer Q&A Thread

If possible I'd go with the bubble blaster over the Aquatrance.

I thought about that.

Bubble blaster 39scfh $234. 400gph 40w

VS

2 aquatrance 62scfh $219. 422gph 70w

The main advantage to the BB is the shaft material and less wattage.

The main advantage to the A is the huge air increase. Which is to be expected with the added air.

Hello everyone! I think I made a mistake of buying*reef*octopus*nwb 250 which is powered by dual otp 3000 pumps(65 Watt each ), now one of the pumps impeller just broke down, currently I am running my old backup skimmer from red sea, however when I tried contacting my LFS, he said that these pumps are no longer available in the market hence he can't arrange for the impeller, I live in India and these products come without any warranty and I just want to replace the pumps for a better performance.

my question is, if I can replace the OTP pumps with any of the upgraded models like Bubble blaster or Aquatrance, if yes? Which model will easily replace otp 3000 without having to do any alterations in existing plumbing in the skimmer? Again, my skimmer is powered by dual otp 3000 pumps.*

I have the identical recirc version. Replacing pumps now as the last OTP is making noise even with new needle wheel impeller. Probably needs cleaned.

I thought about this decision for week now and since I need 2 pumps I'm going aquatrance.

Trying to figure out weather to go with a Reef Octopus Prime 150 or the Vertex Omega 150 for a 90 gal medium stocked tank with a 40 gal sump. Any advice would be appreciated.

Skimmer Q&A Thread

Been running Nyos 220 for about a month on a 300dd. Seems to work well so far. Cup can be hard to remove until you develop some sort of technique.

i am working on a budget 65tall build with a sump and looking for a decent skimmer to get the job done, will be a decent bio load with fish coral and live rock. not looking to break the bank any suggestions

Aquamaxx ConeS C0-1 would work well on that size tank.
Cheap skimmer and is built a little cheap but skimms very well for the price.

I'd check the Bubble Magus line if you want your costs low. Bought a double pump NAC66 last year for a 300 gal setup and have had no problems. It took about 3 weeks to break in and does good.

would you go with that one or the Aquamaxx ConeS C0-1?

They both look like they would be overkill for the system unless they are just rated higher than they can do

Aquamaxx and Seaside Aquatics are a great bang for the buck. And a much better pump then you'll find in the bubble magus.

I'm not at home look it up. But they have several models of in sump skimmers. I do know if you look on eBay there are usually several on there. If you get one rated 25-30% higher than your DT's total capacity you will no problems. I just left my soon-to-be ex wife's house from doing my water change. Other than draining the collection cup daily, I scrub out the collection cup every water change. Every 6 months I remove the main body to get small snails out. They're actually quite nice for the price. And unlike some of the more expensive brands, these come with their pumps included.

i saw that one wasnt sure how it performed

THe C0-1 is not huge and honestly ratings mean nothing on most skimmers There is no way I would ever use a C0-1 on a 150. The C0-1 is very small skimmer actually in size. Anything smaller would perform terribly. I think Aquamaxx is doing a disservice to themselves by putting rating this high on their skimmer. The pump just can not process enough water for that size tank.

The C0-1 performs very well for their size on smaller tanks, good pump but the skimmer is pretty cheaply built. One draw back is it needs to sit in pretty deep water.

Another skimmer I like which is well built is the RLSS R6-i which can handle a bigger load. It is a little more money but it is a better skimmer and has a dc pump which makes it more adjustable and quiet.

Personally with anything under 75 gallon I would go with the aquamaxx C0-1 anything 75 or larger I would do the RLSS skimmer. You just can not beat the C0-1 on smaller tanks for the price.

I'm in the same boat searching for a skimmer. Looking for a small footprint. Currently have a BM Curve 5 that was on my 60 cube. Now in a 93 cube and considering the Simplicity 240 which is DC powered at a good price or the Seaside Aquatics CS7. Anybody have any experience with those two skimmers. The skimmer section of the sump is 10" x 8.25". Thanks
