i noticed this ring within the cup its already skimming a light in tea color skimmate if i turn it up any more it will be a really wattery skim. is this normal in these types of skimmer i want a really nice dark skim should i lower the water level even though its already caking on the inside like that

I started running a new conical skimmer in my system just a couple of days after you started running yours. My skimmate is more light like yours, but has gotten progressively darker. I'm guessing that both of ours are just starting to break in. Just for the record, I don't judge people by the color of their skim.

ha ha ha thats great lol. i have cleaned mine a few times already i like to clean it once a week so i would have to say if i only cleaned it once a month it would be nasty. i just wanted to know if my water height is right couse of the ring of scum.

looks good. I usually leave AT LEAST 1" between surface of breaking bubbles and top inside of neck. If you run any wetter than that you'd better know what you're doing because you're cup might runneth over.

when it gets dirty

when it gets dirty

all kidding aside- each skimmer gets dirty at a different rate.

I wanna see what's going on inside my skimmer so I clean it as often as necessary to allow a good view of what's going on.
