Ok my sumps skimmer compartment only measures 13x18 so I can't get the Octopus skimmer I wanted. I know I have a varied selection of cone skimmers that will fit (along with ASM's), but does anyone have any recommendations on a quality skimmer that will fit this footprint?

P.S. the Reef Octopus Extreme 300 has a foot print of 13x17.

i have an octopus and love it. i will definitely recommend them to any one, but there are many good skimmers out there. for the price octopus is a great choice.

The new MSX cone has the pump under the skimmer body to take up less room. I cant remember the measurements off hand..Just food for thought..

You are right. They also have a MiniS that was a Demo for sale cheap. Its in the bargin bin. I forgot about it till you mentioned them.

The Warner Marine AS 200. Will work really well for you. It uses a sedra 9000HO pump. So it cycles a lot of water and pulls about 900 to 1000 lph of air. It will cycle a ton more than a single sicce. The miniS is still only going to use a single sicce. So I would look at the warner marine or check out a msx 250A

i am biased. i own one. they are bubble king knock offs, damn near dimension to dimension. they use good pumps. this one has an eheim....the one i own has a German aquabee. i used to be in the plastics fabrication business, i would give the build quality a strong B+, materials selection a B. overall good value.
BUT not to same quality as the bubble king...Chinese knock off. they are getting better and better every year.
mines pulls strong all day, never had an issue with it, and its compact, fits in sump.

Do you have any problems with the foam head collapsing during feeding or the additions of additives.

no. i dose amino acids, and another additive, plus 2 part. never noticed reduction in production at any time. it will foam over on water changes and sock changes, i have noticed. you will have to dial it back a bit. its pretty much been set it and forget it. i go out of town on 4 day spans, so no adjustments, i come back to a cup full of nasty.
