SLASH Fragswap - January 27th. 12:00PM

SLASH will be hosting their first ever frag swap on January 27th at 12:00 noon.

We have the room reserved from 12:00 til 3:00 but I was told that we don't actually have to be out of there until 5:00PM ( in case some of you decide to have a few ). There is no age limit so even Trottman can attend if he wishes. We will have a server available while the event is going on and you might want to have some lunch while you're there. I think they serve some of the best hot wings in the city.

Some of our friends from the newly formed Bloomington Normal Area Reef Club have been invited and are planning to attend. I have been told by the club president that he intends to bring some SPS along to trade/sell and that others from the club also have items that they will be bringing.

We wish to invite anyone who wishes to attend and there is no admission fee whether you are a club member or not.

There wil also be raffles for gift certificates from select sponsors.

Start fragging and saving those dollars.

Some of us (mainly me) have never been to a frag swap. Do we bring our own tank? Tanks are set up? Everything in bags?

Have no idea as the only swap meet I have been to involved cars and parts

so is there structure to this Greg (i.e. everything laid out on a table for viewing) or do we just show up and do it casually amongst ourselves or is it an auction?

The best way to sell frags is in bags.

1. Bag the frag before the show and label the name and price with magic marker.

2. bring bags in coolers so they don't get too cold.

3. Lay bags out on table and let people browse while explaining to them if you have any special items(SPS, SUPERMAN monti,etc)

4. some people want to buy and still shop. Hold frags on side in separate bag with there name on them until they are ready to leave.

5. Many frag swaps have people who bring small 10g tanks and light, water, pump. These are cool for people to see the colors. If the hall has elec. and doesn't mind this is usually OK. Larger tanks are usually only permitted by bigger events.

Advertise the swap on as many boards as possible to get attention. Ask the LFS if you can hang fliers. Try fliers at petco/petsmart also! This helps alot!

Try to plan events with 2 months lead time for bigger swaps. It gives people time to frag and for the frags to grow and heal while coloring up. It also allows more scheduling time for guests.

BNARC will be coming to this, I should have around 8 - 10 people making the trip from Bloomington IL maybe more.

I know 3 - 4 of the guys coming are big SPS fans such as my self. I plan on bringing 20 - 30 frags. Most of which will be SPS.

The only think I can think of that I really want are superman monti and superman digi and blue or pink millis and any other rare SPS

I have an extra 30gal if anyone wants to set it up to help show off some of there corals. can probably also get a 29gal

I'll be there and I'll have some superman danae. Looking for some colorful sps. Not ones you have to cross your eyes and hallucinate or put them under smurf blue lights to see that there is a certain color to them.

there will be lots of stuff for sale. i think thats the majority of the swap. but there will be some actual swapping and some freebies.
at least thats how the last one i went to worked.
