Small, Quiet ATO Pump Needed

Ideally, I'd like to have one that will drop into the mouth of one of the standard white, cube-shaped, 5g water jugs we are all so familiar with. I don't care just how much water it pushes, so long as it can move enough for an ATO. It will need to be able to be run dry for a period of time and not fail. There have been plenty of times that I get home and the top off pump is spinning in an empty bucket.

If there isn't one that will fit in the hole, I'm looking for something that is quiet and won't leave a ton of water in the bottom of a bucket when it runs empty. I've used Maxi Jet pumps in the past, but they tend to get loud as they age. They also leave a lot of water in the bucket when they can't pull any more.

So, quiet and reliable is the #1 priority. Everything else above is a nice to have.

Avast marine. Just got their diaphragm and love it... but their peristaltic pump... i guess u dint even know its running. Great prices, reliable quality stuff. American made

I would look into a Litremeter from Spectrapure.
They can run dry, pump through RO tubing, are repairable, adjustable, and very reliable.
Use ones show up in the "for sale section" here on RC every so often.
Almost bullet proof. I use one for top off myself.

There is another option for the "Will need to be able to run dry for a period of time "
Get a shut off float switch and put into your ATO Container and plug the ato pump into it..
http://www.autotopoff.com/Single/S.jpg from autotopoff.com..

this will prevent your pump from running dry . when the water level gets low it will not let the pump run
OF course you still need a new pump i assume..

If you don't have much head, you might be able to use a Tom's aqualifter. It needs to stay out of the water, but putting a rigid sleeve over the tubing will get the inlet to the bottom of a bucket pretty easily.

I'm with Vinny above! Spectrapure pumps are by far the most reliable you will find. They are small, pretty quiet, can pump or pull water around the block and back, up and over the house if you want and are bulletproof. They will also never siphon. For an affordable ATO pump, Spectrapure is my first choice and they will outlast any of the above mentioned pumps by a long shot.

This is a complete ATO solution from them that includes a 5 year warranty and the flow rate can be adjusted.

This is a cheaper ATO alternative from Spectrapure.

If you have a controller, this is another great option as it just plugs into your controllable power bar and can be used with existing float sensors.

Thanks for the info guys. I got busy with life and forgot about this until my ATO bucket went dry. I already have an ATO from ATO.com, so I won't need a full system. I did think about putting a float switch in the bucket (from an extra ATO I have) but would rather be able to swap buckets instead of dumping from the RO/DI container into the ATO bucket, like I"m doing now. Co-location isn't an option in my house.

I'll definitely look into the options you guys passed along. More are always welcome, but this seems pretty thorough.

Looks like a peristaltic pump is the way to go. I ordered one from Amazon, but it's much cheaper than the ones mentioned here. If it craps out on me early, I'll get one of the better ones, but I got some silicone tube, the power supply and the pump for $35. Now I just have to design the rig for holding everything and a nice cover for it all to sit by the tank. Right now I have a blue 5g lowes bucket next to a Cadlights 60 cube. The contrast is more than obvious, haha.

...it would probably help if I'd clean my glass.

I ran ATO out of those jugs for two years.

Here's the ATO I used.

And here's the replacement pump that fits those "Famous" jugs.
