I like your copperband. I hope you don't mind me asking some questions:

1. How is it doing?
2. How well and what is it eating?
3. Where did you get it?

Thanx,

Van.

A 1: Its doing great! shy for the first two days and now it is always out and about even when there is 4 faces against the front glass. It is on the biggest fish I have so no one gave him any issues except my cleaner wrasse who wanted to go straight to work.

A 2: It eats very very well. It joins the heard near the top left when the pumps for to feed mode and chows down. I can 100% say he eats frozen Brine, mysis, and reef chili. I have yet to witness him eat pellets. He also grazes all day looking for worms ect.

A 3: I got him from Reef Monsters. He said, I don't remember the owners name, he had been there for a few weeks. Watched him eat frozen for about 2 minutes with other fish in the same tank. So I took him because I normally can't ever see my fish before I get them except for DD before I buy them due to my living location.

Hope this answered your questions. Let me know if you have anymore

Thanx. It does. I have been looking for a good and eating copperband butterfly. I am worried about how fragile they are though.

That make lyretail is quite nice.
What are you doing for qt on your fish?
Tank is looking good!

Thank you! I love the male lyretail, they are very interesting to watch as the male picks at all the females a few times a day. I would assume to keep his manhood from being stripped.
Most people are not going to like this answer, but I do not generally qt my fish. I combat my none qt setup by only ordering fish from places that state they quarantine their fish. Ex LA Divers Den or Quailty Marine (which is where LA gets there fish "shipped from California"). The one exception I had was the CBB from Reef Monsters. I inspected him as best I could as well as talked to the owner about where he got this fish from in the group of wholesalers in Los Angeles.

It is very hard to find locally, that is why I jumped on it when I was visiting the valley. They are fragile but if DD has one up I would have no problem ordering from them. They offer a warranty as well as the care they take for those fish is outstanding.

I have first hand experience with quality marine and their "quarantine". I lost an entire shipment to uronema, sanitized and placed the same order (some refunded credit) and lost the entire order again to another bout of uronema with the exception of a blenny. The second time they only sent partial shipment as their female lyretail were not up to standards (I can only assume unronema in their system.
Total of 2 male, 6 female lyretail, yellow clown goby, and a starry blenny were lost between the two orders. And this is with a full fledged QT which I dipped and medicated.

Uronema in the display in borderline "hobby ending" imo. You basically have to bleach the whole tank, kill everything (it is gram negative bacteria) and start over with a cycle... Devastating!
I had a buddy who lost his entire order with them as well. Both of these incidents were only in the past few months. I can see their side, it is something incredibly difficult to treat. Especially in their position.
Most places dont QT the way they should. Especially not the way YOU should. It is protecting your investment. Go read about uronema. It may change your mind.
If you can't QT, pay a buddy who does QT a few six packs and have him do it for you. Just a bit of friendly advice. Swing by with a shipment of ship and I will gladly QT for you.

That is very unfortunate to here about that! I will defiantly read about it. I don't have anyone in Flagstaff who does quarantine and coming down to your place in the valley isn't the easiest thing to do with a shipment of fish, but thank you for the offer. I met someone is Prescott who starting his own business and told me he would do everything (quarantine) I order before he sells it to me. He has been to my house ect. I trust him with it.
I am sure that Quality will have to do something very soon or they will lose serious customers with reputations.

spscrackhead - you just scared the &%$# of out me.

I agree. I am getting some fish in next week direct from the wholesaler via a third party. I am glad he will QT first.

spscrackhead- Lets see more of the updates on your build!

I forgot to change the blues on my lights. Next photos will be better!

Lighting Supplement Addition

Lighting Supplement Addition

I have decided that four radion G3 pros are not floating my boat with my SPS coloration as well as shadowing and astetic brightness of the tank. So I ordered t5 retro fit Aruba Sun 5 two bulb 80 watt accompanied by an ATI blue + and coral + bulbs. Does anyone else in az do a radion t5 supplement? I am excited about this and have heard nothing but good things about the hybrid method in relation to the three things I mentioned about that were lacking. Does anyone feel there is a better bulb combo for the next set of bulbs?

I would love to hear your guys opinion on this even though I already ordered the lights.

Everything in the tank is doing well. All frags are encrusting ect.

Hey Ryan, I have a friend with Radions and we are in the process of adding 4x 80w T5 to his tank. He currently has 6 radions over a 300. When my 220 was up previously I had 5x AI Sol Blue and never could get them dialed in to my liking so I ended up adding 4x 80w (the inspiration for adding T5 to Carls Radions now). 2x ATI B+, 1x KZ FijiPurple and 1x ATI AB Special is what I was using (My sol blue fixtures were just white, blue and royal blue thats why I had FijiPurple and Coralplus. Growth and color was great until the tank failed. :hammer:

Ian,

Thank you for the response. I gather from your post that it is a good idea to do this and you had success in the past. If the two bulbs help I will consider doing another set if I have enough room left in the canopy

Quick Update

Quick Update

I have decided to go ahead and purchase another t5 retro fit Aruba Sun 5 two bulb 80 watt accompanied by an ATI blue + and coral + bulbs. I will be mounting them up this Saturday and will have some photos to share. I also got another few acros.

I hope the 4 T5 bulbs will help with the shadowing, visual "brightness", and coral coloration.

Corals look really nice, but from the sand, it still seems like a disco effect with many different "spot" lighting.

Van,

The t5s are not on yet in case you thought they were. I just order some cheap lens and gel filters for my iphone to help with these awful photos I am currently taking ha.

I have ordered some gel filters as well as a cheap macro lens for my Iphone in hopes of increasing the quality of the photos. Has anyone else used this cheaper method of photography? I am not trying to get pro photos just enough to show detail and true color.

The second set of T5s will be here Friday! Excited to install of them on Saturday.
