i think that is a wennerae in the pic, because of the white meral spots...

What is a wennerae? Or how does it differ? What are meral spots?

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder on this one. Man is that thing ugly why would anyone want that? I will get some new pics of the tank shortly, I have not taken any yet since the rock. I have been waiting for it to fill out with the coralin first.

i guess some poeple have different definitions of beauty. poeple would want it because they are intelligent, have lots of colors, nothing like the little "nemos" that every one else has, and are exelent hunters.

oo, a wennerae is a small species of mantis that gets to about 2.5 inches and comes form the florida keys. meral spot are the spots on the inside of its clubbers.

Ok so I tried the bottle trap 3 nights.
Only thing I catch is my peppermint shrimp. So at least I know there still alive and kicking, I never seen them since they went in the tank.

So maybe there is nothing in there. Maybe I'm nuts or I'm hearing crabs falling off the rocks and hitting the glass on the way down.

I see my peppermints pretty often, but do you ever take the flashlight to your tank? I would think you'd see them with only the moonlights on, but I do suppose you've got a bit more tank for them to hide in. I'd be willing to bet they're out when it's pitch black

I waited 8 months to even see the guy I caught. It is best to put the trap near the rock he hangs out in. I didn't even know which rock until I finally spotted him. Falling hermits don't at all make a sound like the clicking of a mantis or a pistol.

Thanks
But not yet, that rock needs to fill in better and I need to learn more and start doing some corals! I think my next project will be a calcium reactor.

Anyway, I heard the snapping the other night but still have not been able to locate it. I think its in the far right corner. I saw the legs of a red hermit there last night. Don't know if it was a molt or a death.

Some of these things look like they are very colorful. If mine is like that I think I may try to keep the little bugger. If it is just one solid color its gone.

How big do they need to be when they start to snap?
There are a few holes in the rock where the crab legs where. There also seems to be a small burrow under a rock?

What is there choice of living space?

Thanks
Maybe thats why I can't find the dam thing.
I was also thinking it could be my powder blue getting mad and hitting the glass. He does this in the evening if he sees his reflection in the glass.

Ok I think I finally saw something last night but it was so fast I don't know what it was.

A clam died yesterday (just a standard little neck from the supermarket) and the hermits and shrimps had a feast. Well at night when I put the light on the tank I saw something dart back into the rock piles. I will try to put my trap there and see what happens.
