any good places to go? I am going to this thing calles shells kay or something like that, where they take you 10 mins. off of st. petes beack to snorkel.. Do you think ill see anything that good, being so close in the gulf.

Shell Island is pretty barren. Egemont Key, a little further out and reachable from Fort Desoto (St Pete Beach) by ferry is better. It's no reef, but you may see a few interesting things around structures.

I live in Tampa but unfortunately don't do any diving or snorkeling. However, Tampa Bay Reef Club has a forum here on RC. You will probably get some good responses if you post this question there.

Ft. Desoto is pretty much the only reasonably worthwhile snorkel site. There are a couple of beach dives that I think are in 20-25 feet of water that might be snorkle-able.

i would say if your coming down this way the best your probally gonna get is egmont key theres a few options to get out there either out johns pass or i believe they have a shuttle now from the pier on ft desoto but they take you to the south end of the island where there are some rocks and old parts of the fort submerged i have never snorkled it but its real clear most of the time and a real nice piece of history. other than that not much shell key preserve isnt much there at all just a island. water is kinda murky right now though. when ya comin down? i live in st pete.
