Snowflake ( Jigsaw )Clowns Breeding ??

Happy New Year everyone,

I have a pair of the snowflake and have noticed the pair doing alot of the submissive thing. I thing thats strikes me as odd is that the male does a head stand quakes to the female...the only pairs I have seen this in before was in the skunk complex.

Just my .02

I recently saw a pair that look alittle different as well. I still would love to know what the babies they don't sell look like. I think one of my pairs is about to spawn.

I'm not at all impressed with the snowflakes.... Give me an onyx or your WC picasso (embryoguy) any day over those snowflakes.

jovreefer,

the more snowflakes i see, the more i agree with you. i like the black contrast of onyx.

now if these snowflakes have black in the body than that would be interesting.

Well...to me the white parts look like computer graphics...like someone got lazy and never finished coloring in their clowns... lol.

WOW! let me say it again.....WOW!

In about 12 -24 months time this fish will be more common and less expensive than it currently is. Its kind of like the flat screen TV craze. Patience and you will eventually find your picasso's.

EZ
are you refering to Picasso Percula, or Snowflake Ocellaris?

As to your prediction... maybe. But only time and production will tell. This is not like producing Hybrid Automobiles.

Really, ok sorry.

Embryo, I need some onyx and can't wait for Rod if you got any tips on finding some PM me:)

oceanarus,

i m leaning towards your theory also with respect to some of these "new" clowns being produced in captivity. i recently bought 6 "picasso" clowns and gave one to a friend. within the past few weeks, all 6 seem to act very diff.(swimming irregularly, pushed out gill flaps, "skirrly"). even though they are eating normally and appear very active. 1 of the 6 died, but the remaining 5 have not seemed to gain any weight , despite feeding them alot.

so maybe these "odd" clowns are genetically inferior. time will tell i guess with these snowflake/picasso clowns.

I think that they be genetically inferior also. I am not saying all of them but I believe this could be true. I don't know if I am understanding this right but aren't all the snowflake clowns that people have descendants from one pair?

then their offspring are being sold in pairs? brother to sister breeding etc...

From experience with dogs and cats inbreeding is not a good thing ( there are exceptions). since fish are not as complexed as dogs and cats, I believe the affect is going to be present but not as much as it would with cats/dogs.

If they would linebreed these fish instead of inbreeding them I bet they would be healthier and also they may get more fry that actually have different looks instead of that stamped " all snowflakes look alike " look.

I breed cats and I had an accidental breeding between mom and son. well the kitten was fine until she got around 1 yr. she lost weight , her hair was shedding , and she started to have skin problems. I took her to the vet and she was there for 3 weeks . the vet told me there is nothing that they could find wrong with her through test. Sadly we had to put her to sleep because of it. she stop eating

:(
