So.Cal. Out of the Ashes 340 build

ahh. yah that sucks. have had a few bubble tips get sucked into powerheads before. pretty gruesome to find them that way. sorry for your loss. hard to have a tank without an anemone though. they are so interesting and pleasant to watch.

So sorry, I know what it means to loose fish.

Thanks. I've never experienced a total wipeout before. Don't really know where to start. I guess setting up a QT is the first step then seeing what's out there to buy.

Are you contemplating pulling the clowns, letting the tank run fallow and re-QTing the clowns? I wasn't along at the start to know if the clowns were QT'd/TTM whatever method you are using or if you might get to "Start Clean" while still enjoying the coral.

Again my condolences, what a terrible loss. I hope you at least get some joy back as you plan new fish and get a 'redo' button on your fish selection. Perhaps a small amount of lemonade out of the lemons?

Motorized light rack installed with 3 Orphek Atlantiks and 6 24" T5s:

I'm probably going to bug you down the road with a parts list for the lift.

Sorry to read about loses most all your fishes. Heartbreaking for sure. Thanks for answering some of my questions on my build thread as well.

That would be the prudent thing to do. But for a bunch of reasons, including that I don't have the patience at this point to wait out the fallow period, my proven inability over time to ensure that every living thing that goes into the tank in the future is QT'd for the requisite period to ensure no ich is introduced and the fact that I need fish to graze on the algae and fish poo to feed my corals and keep my nutrients and bacteria where they have been so I don't start losing corals, no, I'm going to keep the clowns for now and start adding fish again. I will QT the newcomers: TTM and prazi.

The clowns are lost without an anemone though. Kinda sad to see them try to hang in a hammer coral during the day and huddle in the upper corner of a 7' tank at night. I may rehome them to a tank with an anemone if they don't start enjoying life again soon.

Thanks for the condolences.

Thanks. Happy to help with your build. I no longer have the Orpheus but the rack and lift still work great. If you're ever in the area, come by to check out my system.

Update time. Things are going great with the tank. As I was slowly adding fish, I had a cyano outbreak. Treated with Ultralife RSR which knocked it down significantly. As I added fish, it kept receding till now when it is gone entirely. I'm sure the sudden loss of so many fish upset the bacteria balance. It seems to be back in balance now.

I ended up with high nitrates (above 20) and ultra low phosphate (0 on Hanna ULR Phosphorous). I added an Arid C-30 three weeks ago and my nitrates have dropped to just below 5. I'm happy there so am going to start dosing Aminos again.

I've added these fish, all under 4": Interruptus angel, A. femininus; C. Rosefascia; C. lineatus; C. earlie; Gem Tang; Achilles tang, polyzona tang; chocolate tang; L. carmabi and a copperband butterfly.

Now for the candy:

Art, tank is looking fantastic. So much growth since I was last there. Are any of the frags you got from me doing well?

Oh man, holy kamole! I was just reading back a couple pages and saw the mag disaster. That was the nicest fish collection I've ever seen with my own eyes and the mag was the nicest and largest nem I've seen as well. I feel your pain Art and happy to see your rebuilding. Hopefully will be able to say the same about mine to some degree soon.
