So excited

I know some of you have millions of dollars of lenses and what not ;)

But I dont! So I'm pretty excited, I ordered the Canon 100-400 L with IS tonight, I should get it Wednesday or Thursday :)

We are going down to Florida in mid January and my wife really wants to do a couple different things that I know I'd like to have a good zoom on. So I went ahead and sprung for the lens.

I hope I like it! The longest lens I've ever had on my camera is a 100mm macro, so this is going to be leaps and bounds more reach :)

The push/pull thing will take a bit to get used to but it's a pretty sharp lens. I use mine quote a lot.

I tried one on a friends 5D real quick and really liked it. The push pull thing took me about 5 minutes and then I was like whoa, this isnt so bad.

I still find it hard to believe one lens costs more than my camera ;)

Baaa-humbug...crazy I tell you!! Crazy!!

LOL, I'm sure you'll like it. It is a "decent" setup I guess :). I'm kidding, it'll be cool. Seriously though, that is some serious magnification (you have a cropped sensor rig right?). Better take the tripod and get your long lens technique down!! You should hopefully get some good bird shots down there, and when the wife isn't around maybe a few babes on the beach :) (lol).

Hah :) I wasnt planning on even bringing the camera on the beach, too hard to keep it safe. But now you've got me thinking...

dude, I was once dating this one crazy gal with a crazy bod down there. She told me someone once came up to her to tell her there was some dude on the boardwalk with a huge lens taking tons of pics of her!! (this same girl was upset that they have "family friendly" beaches down there where she couldn't wear her thong :) though so you can imagine her attire).

However, if a pretty Seagull happens to land next to some bodacious babe and she "happens" to be in the shot.....lol.

I think my wife is smart enough to realize what's going on when I come home with 8 thousand pictures of a seagull that just happen to have a bikini babe in them ;)

Great lens....that is actually my dream lens right now. I really want to buy a long lens, and that one seems to be the king. Unfortunately I personally may end up getting the much cheaper 70-300 IS (but I am trying to hold out till I can afford the 100-400L).

Well this isnt any amazing test, but I've never had a lens with IS before so I thought it was pretty cool.

Now, this was taken in a relatively dark living room, just one 65w compact flourescent bulb in a large living room and the TV on, so the quality isnt AMAZING but I was pretty impressed.

I hand held both of these shots... which is the impressive part to me. One is 100mm, one is 400mm. Both are taken at 1/40th of a second, which is just nuts. I couldnt hand hold the 100mm macro this steady at 1/40th. I was really surprised how clear the 400mm shot came out.

Now I freely admit they arent perfect, but for being hand held at 1/40th, they are far clearer than anything else I've done at that speed at much smaller focal lengths.

Anyway, I just found it really impressive!

And of course, the obligatory picture of the lens itself, taken with craptastic iPhone camera :)

Where abouts in FL are you heading Recty? If you are going to be anywhere near the Tampa Bay area (hour from Orlando/Sarasota) let me know and I will point you to the reef club here and a couple of the prime LFS's.

Vero Beach, it's by Orlando (which you probably already know).

We wont be doing much besides sitting with her grandparents who are dying and then hopefully spending a day at one of the parks. We're probably driving up to Georgia to go see the aquarium.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm sure I wont be spending time drooling in fish stores ;)
