So I made the leap

Looks fantastic! I'll be following along for sure!

Are you going to have an external overflow?

Yes the overflow will be external. I have the pieces cut for it now, just need to glue and screw them together and attach it to the tank. Seal it all up and good to go, it will have 4 bulkheads in it. 2 for the sump and 2 for my closed loop.

I ordered the first kit of sealant today, should be here Monday morning. I ordered it 2nd day air so I could get moving a little faster on the sealing. I have the trim all cut and ready to go just waiting on sealant now. Pics to come soon.

Thank you, I believe building the large tanks out of wood is the best route to go. There is so much more gratification you get from the tank than just buying a premade glass tank.

I started sanding yesterday, it is going to take a couple go overs with the sander. No new pics yet, I will try to have some pics by Saturday.

I too love seeing wood builds. I think I am going to make the leap as well. please make sure to post images of your bracing

You must have just started the epoxy/fibergalss...at the end I don't know that there is too much gratification, but it is weird to look at it and wonder if it is truly going to hold water:confused:
There is a lot more work than you expect on a big plywood.

There are a lot of peole on RC that have built these tank to great success :) I am a firm believer in "you never know till you do". I have seen a few of these in person and they are awesome.

GreenBay, I will be installing glass in mine this weekend, just had to apply another couple of layers aon the eurobrace (hoping to not need cross braces) What do you think? Better than Tunze?

HOLLY CRAP! With that, you definitely won't need to worry about your oxygen level :) You fiberglassed every inch of that puppy didn't you.

I fiberglassed the whole thing cause I was worried about wave action tearing the joints loose over time. I plan to implement a couple of wave boxes in the future.

No I don't, I am taking pictures though, and will probably post an overview as I get farther along.

Any progress on yours Greenbay, I didn't get the glass in today as I hoped (the epoxy was still tacky around the eurobrace) Maybe tomorrow, I hope to water test this week and finish the demo in the living room!!!
