So I made the leap

what i meant was, im sure they could have gotten donations elsewhere, but the point is moot because it didnt happen that way. Im glad he did that, and hope to see it one of these days.

It was his idea to make the aquarium as a give back to the city, so I do not think it would have come from anyone else

ahhh, didnt know it was actually his idea. thought he just donated. my bad. well like i said, glad he did it. can you imagine? We all are pretty happy with the tanks weve made, but how awesome would it be to just decide your going to build an entire aquarium?....wow, we are getting way off topic.

Greenbay1, hows the clean up going? I hope the damage wasnt too bad.

I got it under control, just need to get some moldy ceiling tiles replaced. The tank never got a drop of water on it, thank god. Will be starting back in it this week.

Sorry to take so long with the update, been really crazy as of late. I have the internal bracing done and all sanded, still need to do the overflow and I will be able to start applying the sealant. I have the eurobraces all cut and ready to put in place. Called and ordered my glass, got a great deal, 1/2" tempered glass for $79.00. I will try to get some pics up, my camera is acting up on me and not saving the pics right for some reason. Thanks for being so patient and hanging on to my build thread.

Man, that is a great deal on glass. I'm building a 450g plywood and the best price I've found so far for a 72" x 30" piece of starphire is $225 plus delivery cost of $40 from glasscages. Locally, $300 is the cheapest. But, I'm assuming that your not going with starphire?

Will watch along on this thread. Love seeing these plywood builds. I'm in the process of fiberglassing/epoxying mine. Fiberglassing is a real pain. Hate it when the edges start fraying. I think I might go to just doing the corners and the bottom. Corners for strength, and the bottom in case of rock slides. Skip the sides. I've copied a lot of the things that SeanT did when building his, including the eurobrace and 2" angle iron along the top front to prevent deflection. Hopefully it works.

Yeah all I am doing for the bottom is glueing down a 1/4" piece of food grade plastic board, the same stuff that cutting boards are made of. I am going to seal it completely to the bottom so (if I decide to) I can put sand down and not worry about it getting under the board.

Sorry, I mis-spoke above. It wasn't SeanT that built the plywood tank, it was Sean : EbN. His and DSANDFORT's tanks were the two that I like the most and got the majority of my ideas from

Progress is very slow these days, so much going on. I did get the overflow built and getting it ready to seal, the inside of the tank has 6 coats of sealant right now and the outside has 2. I have to order the black sealant now to finish the inside, then I can get the glass ready. I will try to get some pics added soon, I know I have been slacking on the updates and all. Life really knows how to hold us back from our plans when it wants to :) Not to mention the wife and I found out we are expecting our second :)

I did not forget you all and I know you watch for updates, I will try to do better. Speaking of.....smorrow, how is your build doing?
