So it begins, part two (120G)

Display and 2/3rd of the sump is now full. Water is off and will resume tomorrow, LtPiper gets the prize for the guessing the correct completion date. Prize is 1 million peso's payable no later than June 01, 2073.

I started the aquascaping tonight and it is proving to be tough as I expected. I still have faith that it will turn out nice.

The good news is that I was able to drill my rock with a 3/4" bit and I haven't broke any so far. It was much easier than I expected. The bad news (no related to the drilling) is that I had a Mag 9 pumping water into my office for a few seconds as I wrestled it under control. It only took a few seconds but that is a lot of water (luckily FW and not SW). After an hour of moving stuff to dry the floor I think I finally got it. I just hope my relatively new wireless printer didn't short circuit.

Woohooo I won!!!!! Hey wait 2073?!?!?!? I'll have to put off those new frags again.....

Mag 9 few seconds.... Yep that's a LOT of water.

Progress pic showing current Aquascape. I'm not satisfied with it yet so it will be seeing some changes before I settle on it. But first I need to get my drain noise suppressed and get my skimmer online.

BTW, the middle is actually an arch ran diagonally. I plan on redoing it with smaller rocks and making it lower. I plan on making the pile on the left larger.

Trying to silence the drain noise is already testing my patients. I was given an idea which will require a trip to Lowes for some larger diameter pipe and fittings. I'm going to try these to see if it will slow down the waters velocity as it enters the sump.

Carb post a pic of your plumbing since you reconfigured it with the feed pump on the skimmer. Let us take a look at what you have going on now so we can throw out some more ideas..... Is the noise comming from the overflow in the tank or from the water entering the sump??????

I'll get some updated pics of it this weekend. Since I have abandoned the gravity feed on the skimmer, it is not even hooked up at this point. As for the noise, I'm having difficulty pinpointing the worst offender (above or below the bulkhead).

I at one point had the flushing which was due to not enough air. The water level would flucaute a lot in the overflow, but as I drilled bigger/more holes it stabilized. Still getting a lot of noise in the sump. I even tried putting a piece of airline tubing through the durso cap and that didn't seem to make much of a difference.

Some improvements were made to the plumbing. It is not silent, but an improvement none the less. I believe I will leave it this way for a awhile. Next on the agenda is to get the skimmer online and work on the aquascaping.

Nice build and a great thread. Could you tell me what you were using for the mesh on the top of your tank? Thanks.

Thanks, the idea came from the following link. IM sent with details. http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=817485

Today I hooked up the AcJr. Mine is the serial port model and I'm a bit bummed it didn't come with a serial cable but I was able to manually program my lights and heater easy enough.

I gathered everything I need to begin drilling my 30G cube. I hope to complete that tomorrow. I didn't want to spend time and money finishing the stand for a tank I could potentially nuke drilling. If the drilling goes well the stands frame will be painted and sent to the cabinet maker for skinning later this week or weekend.

I'm still not satisfied with my drain lines. I'm getting way too many microbubbles and it is still loud IMO. This shouldn't be this difficult!

Oceanic Cube is now drilled. It was not as bad as I feared. The video from Glass-Holes breaks it down perfectly.

I'm really impressed with the guys at glass-holes. I thought it was reasonably priced, super fast shipping, great instructional video on their site, and the construction of the box is top notch. If it is quiet I will give it 10 out of 10 stars.

On the drilling, the include a template of sorts with the package. It is made out of a dense particle board type material that is about 3/8" thick. You attach it to the tank (via duct tape) and it serves as a guide for starting the hole. This way I didn't have any problems with the bit trying to walk around the glass. Once your get a start, then remove the template and proceed like you would normally with the drilling. I used the putty water dam. I did get a little chipping on the inside as seen in the photos but it isn't as bad as it looks. The gaskets for the bulkhead easily covers it up.

Aquascaping Version 2.0
Updated aquascape. As I have it, I should be able to get to the glass on all sides. One big change from V1.0 is the mound of rocks on the left. I wanted to do this for some hiding places for fish and also just to increase the amount of LR a bit. Other than the acrylic rod on the pillar, everything else is just balanced in place. If I stick with this I'm going to cement a few strategic pieces together. The branch rock is just tossed in at random. Any thoughts?

Drain Lines
I did a little experiment with the Durso's because I'm was beginning to believe the source of my bubbles was above the bulkheads. I removed the entire top part of the Durso and just left a16" tall open ended pipe. Not only was it much louder but the bubbles didn't change. So the problem must be with the pipes beneath the bulkhead. The search continues.

30G Cube Progress
I finished putting together the frame and priming it. Tonight I'm going to put a light coat of paint on top and hopefully deliver it to the woodworker this week for completion. The ATO and Kalk reactor will be located in this stand so I will probably hold off on hooking them up until it is completed.

Powerhead Placement
Any recommendations on the placement of my Tunze 6101's? Good as they are or should they be shifted?

I think 2.0 is a big improvement. It really looks great!

If it were me i would move the tunzes up a little. It looks like they are blasting into the rock. Might just be the pic. I would try to give them an unobstructed pathway so u get as much flow from them as possible

I've been looking at tank stand design on RC all weekend for my new tank. When I first saw some of your stand shots I'm thinking okay, next stand thread. But your's looks fantastic! I looks great and I'm probably going to copy it that is if you don't mind. What type of wood is the skin?

Also have you decided on the final score for the Glass-Hole overflow box?

I'm taging along.
