I looked at the site.. Im sorry guys.. the prices are rediculous. $105.00 for a small rainbow monti frag you have to wait til 2010 for?? un believable... I have 2 rainbow montis that look just as good as those. but I cant attatch Tyree "le" to my frags and get $105.00 for a 1/2" peice. He has marketed his stuff very well

not quite sure I understand the singing a different tune part, are you saying they were much cheaper last year??

no, he meant they were more expensive last year before all the wild montis have been coming in., superman, pokerstar..etc.

I have 13 Tyree LE. Couple ways. First off check popular on line frag farmers like Atlantis, fragfarmer etc. Many have Tyree frags. Second way is regularly check the propogated coral selling forum for people selling his frags. I have gotten 7 or 8 that way. Finally ask around your local aquarists for anyone who may be willing to frag one.

If you didnt buy them DIRECTLY from tyree, you can't be 100% sure theyre actually LE's, so you can't call them that.

Good point but I made sure to track the lineage of every one. I did get more than half directly from Steve or Frank Burr. I only mentioned the 13 to show you can get them if you want. It's not that tough.

But really the only reason I tracked lineage is so I can give accurate info to someone if I ever sell a frag. I bought them because I liked the color or growth patterns not because they are LE. I also bought them for our local area to trade and increase the diversity of corals here in Az. We don't have the LFS like Ca. does.

Hummm, I have 4 LE Tyree Coolers, with the original LE invoice. These were actually touched by Tyree himself, highest bidder wins!

I haven't visited Tyree's site in a long time. I found these sentences interesting:

Steve Tyree has been farming corals for over 10 years and has become successful enough to be able to financially support himself with coral farming.

I've been around long enough to watch a couple of farmers of great-looking corals fail. Complaining you can't wait for or afford his stuff is a bit like complaining you can't go to your local auto strip and buy a Ferrarri for Honda prices. Both are just cars, but you'd prefer the one you've been convinced is more desirable. I don't know why you'd resent him for successful marketing, it's an essential part of business. And if he wasn't in business, you wouldn't even have the option of buying a $100 frag in 2011 from him.

We currently do not have any protein skimmers on any of our 7 farming reef systems.

I can think of a few people that must get an annoying twitch from that.:lol:

as far as the 100.00 frags that some hobbyist are waiting 3,4 and 5 years for. . if there is a demand for them sell them for whatever price can be fetched ...
... However, in 2 years when my tank grows in and and lets say i win TOTM. that exposure and some nice pics may allow me to sell my superman, rainbow, pokerstars, Bonsai etc frags for prices similar. It never fails.. when someone posts pics of a fully grown in beautiful SPS tank there are many clamoring for frags from it.. And tanks like that take hard work and dedication
The years Mr Tyree and those like him have put in and the success they have had have earned them the right and privilige to sell the corals for whatever the market demands.. even if I or anyone else thinks its rediculous
