poknsnok, I would assume he is quoting Tyree! I have been to his facility and there are no skimmers. All his filtration done with live rock, sponges, and other filter feeding organisms. Very simple systems with high flow and 400 watt Radiums in luminarcs.Originally posted by poknsnok
We currently do not have any protein skimmers on any of our 7 farming reef systems.
Piercho, who are you quoting??

That is a rumor for sure. Steve is welcome at every wholesaler that I know of. He just got smart and stopped wasting his time there as all the cool stuff is in your tanks What might not be a nice looking coral to you, could possibly be unique to him. If people only knew what goes on behind the scenes to get nice stuff. Not just for him, but anybody. Everybody assumes that vendors are making a killing in their little businesses. Not true for most of them that's for sure.
Tyree does not have you prepay for the fragsOriginally posted by Serioussnaps
buying frags 6 years in advance is nothing but giving tyree a loan to grow his corals and enjoy his hobby and business...if you are nice enough to do this then great...good for ya...me i would rather support my own coral growing with that 100 bucks and by the time i would have gotten a tyree frag i would have 4 fully grown out colonies and everyone drooling and wanting a frag of my stuff...just MHO
The deal is better yet. Tyree does not ask for a large frag. In my case it was 2 - 1" frags. One for farming and one for auction. In return he offered to pay me 50% of his planned LE price for each of the 2 frags or trade for 2 frags of other LE overstock frags. On top of that you get 50% of the auction. Also Tyree does not make a coral an LE if he cannot reproduce the color in his system. This happened to one of mine. Steve really wants to make sure that his clients get what they are paying for.Originally posted by slojmn
I don't know...I kind of think is a win-win for both Steve and the farmer. If you have a very unique and rare (or even not so rare but unique) coral and Steve takes a large frag and auctions the first piece and gives you the 50% from the auction then sets a price on the LE list the value of your coral is increased. You then can choose to sell frags to visitors and hobbyists for the going price as you see fit. A win-win. Some people will want the coral, others will not. Steve is marketing your coral, giving you the props on his website and, if others are so inclined, they can track you down for frags. Pretty ingenius if you ask me..plus the corals he has are truly very, very nice.
