SoCal Reefers Accountability Partnership. Who's with me?

Hey All,
I have been trolling this forum for a very long time. Many of you know me by face and many of you know me by print. I have made quite a few friends here, some of which I have never even met. It is because of this community.

I'm sure by now you know I am honest and shoot straight which is sometimes appreciated and....sometimes not. I have also been honest about myself and my mistakes in hopes that it might help others and hold me more accountable. I sincerely believe that as a community we need to hold each other accountable and by doing so we will only improve. This is where this thread starts....

I posted in a thread here this morning asking for all of us to write our reef and non reef related resolutions that one of my desires was to continue my weight loss and improving my health and well being because of it. I started on this road at the end of June last year. I was ugh 240 lbs and I looked and felt like poo. I am not tall so I looked liked the doughboy with a tan. My shirt size was 2X and my waist was um, well, errr 42. Anyway, I made the decision to eat better and less, remove some liquids out of my life and EXERCISE. I have gotten my weight down to 213.4 (it was at 211 going into Christmas but I gave in to temptation), my waist is at 38-40 depending on the pant and I am in Lg to XL shirts.

I have at my disposal, hills, stairs and running track in my neighborhood to walk, run and hike. In my home I have an exercise cycle and a tread climber, as well as a 5 station gym in the garage plus a bench that inclines and declines and 4 sets of barbells with plenty of weights, full sets of resistance bands, cardio ball, yoga mats, p90x.......oh yeah, and a gym membership! Bottom line, I got zero excuses to be an out of shape slug.

I am asking my reef community to partner with me to hold me accountable to stick to my commitment to improve myself. My first goal for 2014 is to get below 200. From there I will set a new goal. I need to get on this thread daily and report to you what I did for the day to keep myself in shape. If I don't report in I need one or all of you to hold me accountable for not reporting in. I will allow myself Sunday as a day of rest.

Will you partner with me? Would you like me to partner with you? If you want to join in, just post what it is you want to be held accountable for and let's get to work.

Today I walked 3.5 miles total. I walked .75 mi to the school track. I walked 2 miles on the track and part of the 2 miles I did was four 100M sprints so I did 400m of sprinting. There are also stairs at the track (30 steps up and 30 down) and I did 12 sets so I walked up 360 stairs and down 360 and then walked the .75 mi home

I will also keeping with RC request as making topics reef related, state one reef topic statement a day. Here's mine for today:
Keeping a reef is an expensive hobby!

Rik I'm in Encino and a member of 24 hour fitness. I'm down for a healthy lifestyle, whether it's exercise, quitting smoking or whatever else . Great idea

Well, decide what it is you want to be held accountable for specifically, post it and I will partner with you :) thanks for helping me out. Don't let me slide!

I'm in... got to be in the high 220s low 230s by October. I need to lose this weight to be healthier. As some of you know I had a stroke 6.5 years ago and a heart attack 2.5 months ago. So I'm at 286.5 now... goal weight starting February is 275.6... we can do it!!!

Hey Rik the best advice I ever got with all the training I've had in life was simple, don't try to change your whole diet at once its usually to hard for most people but change one meal at a time and perfect that meal then change another meal and so on intill your on the right meal plan for what your trying to do

Paul, I have changed eating habits since June. This is more about me wanting my friends here on RC keep me accountable to keep up with the physical activity. Happy New Year to you and your family and get the new tank up!

First post for the night.
I am with you trying to drop to 165 myself although 155 is better but I love to eat. :(

Welcome aboard Lawrence. Thanks for the info Xion. I will ask my gym about it. I am 54 and have had numerous orthopedic surgeries so need to find out what I can and can't do

I'm in! Congrats on your progress so far. I was 265lbs in Setember of 2013 and I'm down to 245 now. Under 200lbs sounds like a good number to me. Lets do it.

Hi Dodgerblew, good luck to you. I think you need to consider your salt intake also. Current recommendations are for 1500 mg of salt or less per day. If you have high blood pressure, I think less is better. When cooking do not add any salt. When eating out, look for low salt alternatives. When shopping look at your labels for salt. A can of Campbell's chicken soup has around 950 mg of salt. That is more than 2/3 of the recommended salt intake in an 8 oz can of soup! So look at your salt. I have a family history of diabetes, hypertension and dyslipidemia so I try to limit my salt intake. I am 42 years old, almost 43 so I am entering that age where those chronic conditions pop up. I am a pharmacist and my wife is one also and she works in a primary care clinic where she daily sees patients who have these 3 chronic conditions. I have seen people who have successfully controlled their conditions and lead healthier lives. Although I don't currently see these types of patients I did when I was on my rotations. I help my family member with these chronic conditions. It can be done so good luck to you and everyone else who is trying to lead longer healthier lives! But remember to be patient with yourself because you cannot change yourself so quickly. It took 30-40 years to "eat" the way you did to become that size. It will not happen overnight to drop "X" lbs and go to a size 36 either. Exercise along with healthier eating choices and proportion control is a moderate "sustainable" change. It's important to give yourself a chance to let loose a little otherwise you'll always have that temptation and totally go overboard when you do binge. I don't always look on this site because I live in the Bay Area, but when I saw this I had to wish you well!

Hey Rik, I trained heavily back when I was still at UCLA, but I stopped my usual routine about 2 years ago due to laziness pretty much. I'm not as fit and athletic as I used to be so I would like to get as close to where I was 3 years ago. So my goal this year (before my wedding in July) is to get back in shape, so that means eating healthy, sleeping early, and exercising regularly!

This was 3 years ago during a spring break vacation in Costs Rica with my roommates.

I ate 6x/day and exercised 5days/week for 75minutes. I did A LOT of circuit training, plyometics, sprints, jump ropes, kettlebells, heavy ropes, basketball, and believe it or not, yoga. So if you need any workout ideas, just let me know. Too bad you live so far!!

Count me in! I gained so much weight while my wife was pregnant you'd think I was the one who carried and birthed our child. Last year the wife to be and I decided to sign up at the gym we both dropped 30 pounds a piece on exercise alone ignoring dieting which really is 80% of successful weightloss. So this year I'm hoping to knock off another 40 pounds and sit around 220 at 6'0" not a fan of being skinny never been and don't really plan on being skinny.

There's gotta be a nutritionist on RC somewhere! Lol
But I know everyone on RC is tech savvy you should all definitely check out an app called myfitnesspal you can add people and see there progress and daily meals and it helps break down your intake for the day week and month. It's pretty awesome if you can manage to load all your daily foods.

So true! Every 10 days or so, I would pig out sorta like a reward for staying motivated. Having a workout partner more dedicated than me also helped a lot!
