Hey I've had him for 2 weeks in. A 150 gallon sps dominated tank ... He seems great looks good pecks at the glass and rocks but won't eat anything I offer only stuff on the veggie clip ? Anyone know any secrets or have any advice? I don't think he's getting enough from that alone .. I been offering Rogers complete blend and the green blend ...

thaw some mysis.

place it on nori, and make a wrap, and put the wrap on the clip.

he will eat the nori, and get used to mysis, and maybe take a couple of mysis while eating nori too ... eventually will get used to it.

same with pellets.

after a while, make mysis the first food you offer the tank, and feed nori hours after ...

Still only eating nori I've tried stuffing the nori with mysis shrimp ... It's kinda weird the sohal still looks fat and healthy but can't be getting all it needs

Have you tried any flake or pellet foods? NLS and Seaweed extreme pellets are very good. I have a couple of finicky tangs that just won't take mysis but they go nuts for pellets.

Honestly if the Sohal is at the clip and eating well you shouldn't worry too much. There are only a couple species of tangs that don't primarily feed on algae and need that meaty goodness, but Sohals aren't one of them. If you are feeding him an enriched seaweed (not nori from the Asian market) he is getting most of what he needs from that. Anything else is supplemental and bonus. You can also give his seaweed a soak in selcon and zoe for extra vitamins and amino acids. If you do that, make sure you soak it and then let it dry again so that the additives don't immediately dissolve into the tank when you place the clip in.

Good luck! +1 on the picture! :)

Ya they seem
Fat and healthy it just doesn't seem like enough ... I imagine in the wild tere grazing all day at just a little at a time thanks for replys guys

Try some Mixed Flakes - Sea Veggies by Sprung. Get the guy use to eating veggie matter in a different form them start subbing some different flake stuff in/pellets. Getting him on a frozen mix would be the end objective though, their are 100% frozen veggie mixes to get him on then mix in the pro green type frozen mixes.

Overall, I wouldn't be too worried in current state.

The reason I didnt suggest flakes or pellets is because if the Sohal is only eating seaweed in my experience won't touch flakes or pellets. My Achilles I had would only eat brine at first, then switched and would only eat mysis and leave the brine floating thru the water, he did also eat seaweed but never touched pellets or flake. That was my experience, everyone will have different success rates

I ordered all 3 kinds of springs sea veggies today for variety and he did hammer on the blackworms:) is the Julian sprung veggies good stuff?

I've always thought live blackworms were bad for reef tanks for some reason? Are they? Not sure were I heard it from

Just so you don't over feed them you should have no problems, what other fish are in the tank? Sea veggies are great, I like the purple because it is actual seaweed cut up and makes less of a mess then the red and especially the green, at least that was my experience with them let me know your thoughts after using them
