Solana tank owner thread.

Well, this is my first time posting on here (reefcentral, that is) and I am planning on getting one of the new superbrite 34 gallon solanas! As of right now, my plan is to buy the tank, have the back drilled for a custom overflow and return, then paint the back black. I'd like to have a sump in the cabinet underneath with all the hardware there as well. My question is, where can I find a stand for these tanks? I've looked tons of places but have been unable to locate where they can be purchased! Thanks!

Welcome to reefcentral medic!

I'm slowly building a Superbrite as well and ran into the same problem. I'd recommend just building your own. That's what I did. I'm not the handiest wood worker but it wasn't that tough. I borrowed a few tools from my brother and made it happen. OK, I cheated on the door and bought one prefabricated on eBay of all places.

If you really have zero tools I'd pay a local cabinet maker to build one. It would still be comporable or cheaper than the Solana stands anyways and you could choose your hieght and design. Mine is way more roomy than the Solana ones.

Here's a couple pics of mine. I could have gone without the supports inside and made more room underneath but I didn't want to worry about its strength.

Good luck with your stand and keep us updated with your build.

Hey thanks Chad!! Planning on starting a build thread once I get the tank! I'm sure I'll be able to find someone to build a stand without problem. My local reef club has some serious craftsmen! Thanks again for the advice, I look forward to seeing your build on here as well!

M10's placement and configuration

I have 2 MP10's:
1) back wall, center - 60% Reef crest mode , Night mode from 10pm-8am.
2) right side, top half, front - 30-40% Nutrient Export mode , Night Mode from 10pm-8am.

I'm still messing with the settings of pump #2 along with placement. The goal is to provide the entire tank with ideal flow/movement. Having very fine sand, I can't have the pumps too low or I'll start kicking it up.

That said, where are you pumps placed?

Im also wondering what I should place in the second chamber. Im going with a 9002 in the first and was planning on LR in the second but I've read that will be a detrius trap. I want something there that won't need constant maintence.

KISS is the way to go for more!

I went with the inTank media basket (running floss/purigen/chemi-pure elite) but there are some DIY options using egg crate towers as well.

The floss at the top comes out filthy just about every week. I'd keep something disposable up top for sure. That said, I have a newer sand bed (2 months) and a diamond goby that kicks up quite a bit of sand.

I got my Solana used a couple of months ago. Knowing I was going to be moving I haven't done much with it. I will post some pics soon as I am moving mid july and should have the tank building process under way by the time August if over.

I need to drill the back for my thermal regulator. I have Peltek, pretty neat! Right now I use it on my 12g but it's plumbed with PVC over the back..... I do NOT want it like that on the Solana. Thinking I can drill into the first compartment, plan to use a Tunze skimmer, so there should be room to draw water out of that compartment down low, then return in the third compartment. I am going to use a Mag2 and also in this plumbing will be a DIY GFO reactor.

Im having a big issue you the heater in my tank. I have a 150w Ehiem Jager. I tried putting it in the 3rd Chamber with the return but it didn't keep a stable temp. in the display so I moved it to the first chamber with the skimmer and its doing the same thing. Its now outside of the back chamber and intruding on tank space. Any suggestions??

I was thinking bad heater. What's the turn over through the sump? Even the stock pump turns the tank every 6 mins. The other setup should have worked.

This is my 3rd heater. Before I had a Fluval, exchanged that for a Aquenoxx, returned that for the current.

Using a MJ900 for return.

Maybe its my thermometer.

I'd check both, with that mj's flow rate you shouldn't have seen a big swing. My tank swings about 2.5 degrees each day between the night time low and daytime high from the lights.

I'm using a Jaeger 75W in chamber one in the spot designated for a heater, with no temperature issues. Curious: Why did you choose such a high wattage heater?

It just hit me.... Peak pole say the toms aqualifter can't reach the top of the tank with its lack of power. Do you think it has enough power to be connected to a return line with a check valve?

I plan to run a DIY GFO reactor in line with my peltec thermal regulator. I was thinking I could use a T fitting off the hose that will be going back to the tank. My goal is to have zero cords or tubes going over the back, even thinking I'll drill a hole just for cords. Only cords I should have are the skimmer and return, but still think zero is best :)

Recently got a used Solana that did not come with a skimmer. I wanted to find out if anyone has a stock Solana skimmer that they would like to sell me. I also have a Cardiff tank that is running with a stock skimmer that is the same as the Solana and I've been pretty happy with it. Please let me know if you have a stock Solana skimmer laying around that you would like to sell (hopefully in good running condition). Thanks
