I think it depends on what you're wanting to keep. I have the 250 watt sunpod and all my coral are doing great.... I was debating getting something else (250 watt MH w/ t5 or 6-8 bulb high end t5 unit) just to get a little more color options, but there is a guy on the "other" forum that just built an actinic led strip for the sunpod and I'm just gonna get those now. JMO
 
both. It wasn't enough powerful enough or spread out enough for a FW application. We all know that the 150w is more than adequate for a Solana. I personally want the actinics to help the colors pop. I want to add more blue without going 20,000k.
 
I like the options of t-5 bulbs, and the supposed heat benefits, but I haven't found any stand alone t-5 fixtures that aren't too wide, or have 18 inch bulbs (only current makes these now). I really don't like it when fixtures spill over...

I plan on keeping a mixed reef. The supplemental led idea sounds interesting as well.

That's why I didn't go t5 from the start. The overhang would have driven me nuts. Here is all the info on the sunpod LEDs.

I've been scoping those powerbrites for awhile as the best choice for retrofits. I don't think a 24" fixture will look too bad as long as long as it's suspended and not on legs.

This guy has a 24" sunpod over a solana.

On another note... I just discovered that the Penguin Rite-Size Filter Cartridges Size A fit perfectly on the tray in the 2nd chamber. I'm going to be using them from now on instead of floss.

So I take it the the foster and smith eco cube unit is the same correct? thinking about ordering one with the low iron glass. just wanted to make sure before I pull the trigger.

It is my understanding that the eco cube is essentialy the same tank with a different brand name, but I have not seen one first hand to know for sure.

It's the same, just 25 gallons instead of 34 gallons

I just started using it two days ago. I don't think it will be easy to clog. the footprint of the entire deal fits perfectly in the area. That being said, the last inch or so isn't as wide as the rest of the pad... so it gives to small areas to either side that are open and drain directly through. I have it oriented where the water overflows onto the side w/ the full footprint.

I'm sure there's a way to attach the following sunbrites to a pendant. I can't say it'll look amazing, but it won't look terrible either.

I looked into the whole powerbrite thing too, but they are very direct light so it's like small individual beams going into the tank (I tried one) and to me it just looked cheesy. That's why when I found the led kit he makes I was happy because they are 80 degree optics so they are very broad so the light spreads much better...

Not real sure what you're asking, but they have optics unlike the leds on the sunpod, but the optics they have are very narrow, so the light is very focused. When I hung one over my tank with my sunpod, it looked like 4 direct beams of light into the tank instead of a solid light...
 
well scratch the powerbrites... The moonlights on the sunpod seem to give a good spread of light and they are very bright. I was hoping the powerbrites would give off light in a similar manner.

I have a 24" Outer Orbit (150 watt MH with 4 T5 bulbs white and blue moon lights) and it works great, I have it suspend on homemade light tree about 8" off water and works great very little bleeding from lights
