I use the 2.5 gal Fort Pak jugs from US Plastics. They're inexpensive and fit nicely on the bottom shelf in the stand.

US Plastics

Thanks those are exactly what I am looking for.

If you want more than 2.5 gallons, you should consider the cheap 5.5 gallon critter tanks like this guy uses...

I'm following his footsteps, you don't have to refill as often.

He has acrylic lids for them...

One is ATO (left) one is 2 part dosing (right)

Look at that, they fit in there perfectly. 5 Gallon tanks are cheap too at the local Petco.

Yep, like $16 at Petco for me. I spent $11 on the lid, having it cut at a local glass company, its 1/4" thick, and the size I had cut was 15 1/2" L x 7 5/8" W, fits wonderfully. Just need to get a handle installed now. He used those 3M commander hanging hooks, that you can remove.

I checked into those 5.5 gallon tanks and they were $14.99! You can buy a 10 gallon cheaper!! LOL I think I am going to bite the bullet and do those anyway as I really like that look.

One other thing to note. If you want to spend just a little more money, 3 2.5 gallon tanks will fit side by side down there too!

10 gallons won't fit at all down there! But sad they are cheaper, less demand? I still like his setup, 5.5 gallons of ATO water, and another 5.5 split in half for two parts dosing...I'm not there yet, so I just have the ATO tank, but I know what to do next for dosing...

Yeah I have tried to come at the problem from all angles and keep coming back to the 2 x 5.5 setup. I even thought about building my own acrylic ATO and dosing tank but the cost of materials would be more than just buying 2 of these 5.5s. My float valves should be here tomorrow so I guess it's off to Petco I go this afternoon!

I thought about trying to find the part glass part plastic lids for these, which probably run about $9-$11 themselves, but opted to have the glass company cut that piece of acrylic yesterday and it fits well and looks good. I just need to drill me some holes for the ATO tube. I might end up with the real lids down the road, as I love this clean and neat look.

Well I had a few minuted to model up the real compartment cover. It isn't perfect just rough dimensions until I can take a tape measure to it.

There still needs to be a slot for the moonlight to hang out but that can be added at any time. Now I need to run to the local acrylic manufacturer to see if they any scraps around :)

You should share your patent with StevieT at www.mediabaskets.com and market this on the Solana portion of his web site, I'm sure you two could share the profits.

Na, I'm just making this one for myself with it customized for my needs :)

Ok, be that way, see if I share anymore mod ideas with you selfish...

Boo Hiss

Not trying to be that way but I have only limited access to a milling center here at work. I would never be able to cut a bunch and give away or sell.

Plus I am sure Current USA would not appreciate me selling things with there name on it :)

After I get the dimension I would be glad to share so you could have your own cut :)

Can somebody do me a quick favor? through a tape measure on the rear compartment of the tank and tell me how deep it is. I am guess around 6" but don't really want to estimate it :)

I mean the width from the front of the black plastic to the back glass panel.

I was just teasing you Kevbo...no biggy. You're fine, I'm interested in seeing your final product though.

Picking up the piece of material in the morning and then heading to work(day off) to program and machine it up.

My only dilemma is whether to angle it up towards the rear 3/8" of an inch with a riser block to hide the wires and such or machine slots on the back of the cover for the wires to protrude from.

My main reason for this cover is to hide the stuff in the rear compartments as well as keep all the light from entering there and causing algae and other nuisance growth. I did this on the overflows on my old 180 and it works wonderfully.

I may go one step further and made to false panels to go between the wall and the tank hiding everything from the sides as well. I am hoping to have enough extra material for this :)
