Anyone knows if the euroreef nano skimmers work in the solana? here is one that looks like it might fit

http://www.nanoreefsystems.com/nano-protein-skimmers-ns25-3LC.asp

I'm not sure- I've got the one for the nc12 (the body is the same, but the pump is on the bottom) I'll be adding a solana to the family :-) here real soon and decommissioning the NC12. Wondering if I should keep the nanoreef or stick with the built in? OR should I let the NR go with the 12, and get something else for the solana (I've used the tunze 9002 on my cube, and the NR works about 20% (seriously) better....

Yeah all the mods needed to run the tunze skimmer just turns me away because its also the most expensive skimmer.

I really want to try out the euroreef just because its from euroreef and they have a very good reputation, the only downside is that it looks like it will stick way out from the tank.

Now the sapphire is the cheapest and seems to fit perfectly on the solana, but the downside is that the company isnt very well know...

Reading through 22 pages today, and this is exactly what I'm looking to learn LOL

I wouldn't buy the Tunze 9002. Period. I have the ER for my nc12 and I love it. Ran the Tunze 9002 in the tank for a year til the ER nc12 version was released. The ER is much much much better. The ER I have is for the 12 though, and I'm moving into a Solana this weekend, and don't know if I should stick with the stock skimmer, or use my nc12 ER skimmer, or buy the ER skimmer made for the Solana. The solana is intended to be a quarantine/grow out tank before thing move to the "big reef" just as the nc12 is now. So I don't want to drop alot of cash needlessly, but on the otherhand I'm accustomed to my nc12 having a great skimmer (which I truely believe is the backbone to a mixed reef.)

Anyway-
is the stock skimmer worthless or just loud LOL

i have the same lights and bulb combination as you do. i do like the look of the light combo alot better. i also have a rbta in it, it is thriving. it sits probably 4-6 inches from the bottom. the rest of the tank is sps and zoas. it is getting pretty large and though i love it, i hope i dont have to remove any of the sps.

Awsome, do you have pics of your tank with the rbta?

Just got my current usa 1/15 chiller and a maxijet 1200 powerhead.

Current recommends a flow of 100gph to 350gph trough the chiller

The maxijet 1200 that I got for the chiller is rated at 290gph.

Should I use the stock pump that puts out 396gph or the maxijet which I trust alot more?

I have an AquaEuro USA 1/13 hp chiller that I'm just using the stock pump for the chiller. I have the in coming from the pump of course and the out going to the return into the tank. So far it has worked really well. Current told me that it would work well and slow down the flow in the filter area, which in my opinion that is a good thing.

dustin, I think it is a great thing. I have mine set up that way and love it, I also have the water going through a UV before going back to the tank. I like the fact that it slows the time the water is in the skimmer chamber personally.

Oh yeah thats what I paid for the exact same thing, sorry I got confused thought you were talking about something else for a bit there...my bad. Its a good solution for $3.

This is exactly how Im gonna set up my tank and will probably use the stock pump

has anyone ever cut out the back wall and drilled there solana? i'm going to do this next weekend. wanted to hear input and personal experiences of others who have done this.

erik, you may want to look at the new solanas instead, if you didnt want to risk breakage. they have a cut out lip on the back now, potentially giving a great surface skimming overflow.

could use this:

to try something like this:

My solana is 2-1/2 months old and the skimmer wasnt working like it should, there wasnt any real skimmate produced in the last weeks.

Some times it just stopped producing bubbles, I had to turn the pump on and off to make it start working again.

Well I got tired of the poor performance from the stock skimmer so I decided to give it a clean, the was some minor debris on the pump, the red bioballs inside where all covered in debris and I cleaned then, the air inlet tube was clogged with some white looking debris (no wonder why it wasnt working)

After the maintenance the skimmer started working good again.... I will always clean the skimmer from now on when I do my waterchanges...

This is something that I started to post about a while back and now wish I would have. This has and will be an issue that anyone running the stock skimmer needs to read close and look into. I have had my tank up and running about 7mths now and have had to clean my skimmer air inlet tube out twice. Seems that in the last little bit of tubing next to the pump, salt crystals build up and will restrict and eventually plug off the tubing. Don't know if this is a tubing issue or just what the cause is but it has built up twice on me now. The first time I just crushed the tubbing between my fingers and then rinsed it out. The second time I just cut the tubbing off that was plugged. It is a slow buildup / restriction, so you most likely wont notice until your tank starts having issues. After cleaning it out its like ohh, wow I forgot how much that old man weezed. There is also a noticable differance in how much more turbulant the bubbles are when you pull the cup out. If you haven't delt with this yet, check it, you will find some. Every water change may be overkill but at least every other month.

This is common of any skimmer of this type. The easy way to clean it is; warm up a little RO/DI water and stick the end of the air line in, letting the pump suck the water throught and disolve the salt creap out of the tubing. Quick and easy enough to do it weekly or monthly.

What ATO setup is everyone using??? I'm wanting to go ahead and get one for my tank, but not sure what everyone else is using and how it's working out...

I have the tunze osmolator, works like a dream. Once I was doing a water change and didn't want the alarm to go off so I unplugged it and forgot to plug it back in. It didn't work like a dream.

Does anyone have their electronic ballasts inside the cabinet?

About to place an order on a galaxy ballast and Im hoping it runs cool enough to sit in the cabinet. Or is this a fire hazard?
