I have it set up in chamber 2 as well, it sticks up about 1/4 inch that's it. No flow restrictions at all. Can barely notice it.

What happens when you turn off your skimmer and return pumps?
I bet it gets pretty close to overflowing into the box.

This particular dry dock was designed to fit in chamber 2, not 3, so I doubt it would fit at all.
But if someone did design one for the 3rd chamber it would make more sense as it would probably not restrict flow at all, you just couldn't use the ATO bottles but that is something most don't use anyway...

So we need someone to design a box for the 3rd chamber, or just shorten up the one for the 2nd chamber. I think most like the 2nd chamber so they can center their VorTech in the tank on the back wall...but the 3rd chamber is another good option.

Why would the dry dock not fit in chamber 3? From the pics, it seems like the space is wide enough to accommodate a dry dock. It looks like it's deep enough w/o the ATO bottles to accommodate one as well. I've seen a FTS somewhere of a Solana with a vortech on the back wall to the right. Is there something I'm missing?

Because this particular dry dock was designed and created with chamber two dimensions, and chamber 3 has different dimensions, especially where its angled. I don't have this dry dock anymore so I can't try to stick it in there and see. Someone else would have to, but I don't think it will.

I've seen the Vortech mounted in the 3rd chamber as well, but I don't think it was this particular dry dock, it was probably a home made version that fits in the 3rd chamber.

I could be wrong, but from what I remember of the size of that dry dock, it was big, I don't think it will fit in the 3rd chamber. Now a DIY version could very well, and thats probably just as good an idea as any. So I wasn't saying it couldn't house one, just not this particular one that was bought from inTank.

can you take a few picture of how far it sticks out and the flow in the back if you can? i'm considering buying this box too but am skeptical and holding off on it due to a few posts regarding flow restriction...

sorry to hijack this thread trigger...

You're not hijacking! This is all good discussion on the Solana tank, and will for sure help you and other owners, so don't worry about that at all here.

If you can take pictures of this dry dock box in the 3rd chamber and share, that would be awesome!

I have the current USA 1/10 chiller and run it through the return with a Maxjet 1200.

My Solana will house our seahorses...and will run at 74 degrees.

I have ordered the Current USA Prime 1/15hp chiller for my new Solana (Thanks TriggerHappyDude). Can you show me how you plumbed in yours to double as the return pump and chiller feed? Sounds like a plan! I assume I could use the stock return pump in the same fashion?

Musings on the Solana

Musings on the Solana

I plan to keep a few pieces of LR in the Solana, with several zoanthid colonies, sun coral and chili coral. Later I will add a gorgonia or two. All are corals are "fairly" low light demanding and are compatible with the stars of the tank, our Hippocampus Reidi seahorses... I will also add several types of macroalgae as well as fake plants for hitching posts.

From reading about three months' worth of posts on this thread, the concensus seems to be keep the stock return pump, but get rid of the skimmer in favor of the Sapphire Aquatics version.

I had a Sapphire skimmer in my Bio-Cube several years ago - a great little skimmer...good to see they are still in business with an expanded product line... I'll give them a call on Monday.

In addition to the skimmer, I will need to quickly make a decision on lighting for the tank. I have seen many options, but look to the experts on here as what light system can be suspended about 8-10" above the tank, while offering adequate lighting for the listed coral. Moonlights would be a desireable option.

Any suggestions?

I am by no means an expert but the Current Sunpod is similar to the Outer Orbit that I purchased and a higher wattage MH.... I purchased my light from these guys and I couldn't even tell the light was refurbished... Follow this link to the light

SunPod 24"1x250 watt 14,000K HQI +12 LED's

I built a custom light tree to hold my light and it works really well

I hope this helps

Thanks for the idea, Rich.

I am trying to move away from Metal Halides, and with the coral I am selecting to move over to the Solana, I think 3-4 T5s might be adequate and result in less heating...

Anything out there with that combo?

Thanks again.

If you watch that seller they list Nova extreme T5 lights frequently in the 24" model...

Will do...

I prefer my ATI lights...but the Nova Extreme was under heavy consideration back before I made my purchase.

What made you lean toward the ATI? Do they include LED moonlights? Separate cords for actinic and "white" lights?

Does the 24" width "spill over" the sides of the tank? It didn't look like it when I was admiring your starfire tank...but I was concentrating on the tank rather than the light...

BTW, no leaks! :D

Thanks, Chris.

Another light selection...

Another light selection...

Anybody using one of these?

http://www.current-usa.com/nova_extreme_pro

I see that they have a 20" version...

1083 20" Nova Extreme Pro 6x18watt T5HO 3-10k/3-460nm actinics 2 108w 20" x 12" x 4.25"

1092 Optional Hanging Arm Kit <- has anyone used this hanging arm kit on a Solana stand?

Light Nano Reef just had a competition for their birthday and I won that light! I like it, Evaporation is less, much less. Hopefully I will have a good result, the corals seem to be adapting fine. I just had to ad moonlights.
