Solana tank owner thread.

I can take pictures of the stand is soon as i get back home. Out of town until Friday. I already own 3 of them. I blindly bought the solana stand. Once I started assembling it, I was like, "I paid how much $ for this???"
 
I would check the depth of the stand before commiting to it. All the spec sheets Ive seen have the oceanic cube as 18" deep and 21" tall.
 
I just got done putting my Solana stand together and I have to admit...it is structurally cheap...not really worth the price tag Current has it listed for...

For one, I broke 3 screw heads off of screws for the door hendges...one of the rails for the drawer cracked horizontally right down the middle so I had to glue the two halves back in place...and lastly, I had to drill new holes for the door hendges after breaking the screw heads off of 3 screws...

It's probably worth under $100 or there off, but not the ~$200 it is at right now...
 
As nerdy mentioned,,, i had the oceanic tank and stand before, thought about using the stand on the new solana but was short (front to back i believe) by a couple inches.
 
well drat... I was going to measure when i got home. I guess I will stick with the crapy stand. One of my drawer rails was split right out of the box as well. I wish I'd read more documentation on how crappy the stand was. I'd much rather have bought another stand.
 
too many setbacks on getting the tank in the first place. UPS broke the first tank. I probably won't even use the drawer. I copied and pasted the specs for the oceanic stand right off of oceanic's website. Shame on them...

I was lucky, because someone else assembled my stand...I missed out on all the fun! :rolleyes:

My wife makes stained glass creations, and will replace the cheesy glass panel with a stained glass seahorse, which will be backlit.

So all in all, the stand works for us...

Did you order your tank through a LFS? I did for this very reason, when you have a tank shipped from an online retailer via UPS or Fed Ex etc, its very risky, they don't care about the product and treat it so. If you order through your LFS, most all will have a distributor who can order directly from Current-USA and have it shipped on pallets with care that glass tanks need. Then the LFS picks up from the local distributor and sells to you. You'd be amazed at what your LFS can order for you in this hobby, they have the connections.

As for the Solana stands, if you have any pieces that are broken, contact Current-USA and they will replace the part or the entire stand if you feel the sturdiness is at risk. You just need to contact them.

I like the look of the Solana stands, it fits with the decor in my home and I feel they are built nice to hold the tank. I put two together and it was quite easy to do. For the job its intended for, I think it does it fine.

So I guess now I'm getting the "NEW" Sapphire skimmer as well...supposedly they packaged my skimmer but UPS never picked it up because it got mixed up with a few other boxes in Sapphire's warehouse...so now they're sending me the new one instead...

Anyone has the new model & old model that can compare the two?

I doubt anyone would have both? The skimmers are really new, I have version 1, it just came out not too long ago. I'm not going to spend another $129 to get the new version, this one works well. Not sure who would have both to compare?
 
My Solana is full of tiny microbubbles, not sure where they are coming from, been getting worse and worse over the past few days, where should I troubleshoot?

I would defintely check the skimmer return first
 
In the solana the only real possible culprit would be a skimmer or if you keep the water level low enough your return could be the problem.
 
My solana has started doing this in the past week. Whenever I feed, the tank gets loaded with microbubbles. I freaked out at first since there were so many it made the water look cloudy.

Just turn the skimmer off for a few minutes. Thats what I did, and all was normal in a few minutes.

After a few days, I still get lots of micro bubbles when I feed, but theyre not nearly as much, and dissipate shortly.

I also ran ro water through the skimmer air intake to alleviate any salt creep.
