I have been at this for years, just wanted to know what people are using for a feed pump. I have 3 tanks up and running right now, and just started building a house so i moved into a Solana for now. Using a calcium reactor IMO is safer then 2 part, you just set it up, and thats it. I have been using one for years on a 60G cube with no problems.

Sometimes we should check the member since date and not the Post counts, trust me i know what i'm doing.

I did check the member since date, and even commented on it. (last line of my previous post)

I have also asked a couple of times for the type CA reactor that you are using on a 34G tank. You haven't answered that question yet, and I am intrigued...

I'd love to see photos of your setup using a reactor on your Solana...

It’s a single 4” chamber Octopus Calcium reactor run off my RKE, I will be adding a 2nd chamber to deal with the PH issues that may happen with only having 34 gallons of water. I also have a 2nd PH probe that will shut off the reactor if the PH gets too far out of wack on the tank, giving me time to adjust without crashing my tank

Pic's will be put up when i get all the corals that are going into the tank in.

live rock

live rock

I need some help from solana owners, I am ready to get live rock and start my cycle etc. But really how much live rock should I get? 34lbs based off of the lb a gallon rule or more 1 1/2lb rule? also what size rock 3-5in/5-7in/8-12in? When I measure the tank using the RC calc its like 26/27gal. Any light that can be shed would be helpful

Buy what looks good in your tank. Don't reply on the pound per gallon rule, or you may end up with a big pile of rocks that is not visually appealing to you...

As far as filtration and water quality, rely more on regular water changes and a good quality skimmer in your Solana.

I am so sic of marine depo they keep giving conflicting information about when they will be sending out the mp10's. anyone get a date from them.

My rule of thumb is...get rocks according to your aquascape...not a so many # of rock per so many gallon...although you don't want to just get 3 lbs. for a 34 gallon tank...by the time you finish your aquascape, you'll have enough rocks in your tank for filtration...worry about aquascape first, then if you feel like you need more rock, then add more rock to fit your aquascape...

anyone else love their solana so much they want to upgrade?

Ive only had mine running for about a month or so and like it so much that I want a bigger one already. good thing I kept an upgrade in mind as I purchased all the requisite items :D

Thanks for the LR insight I was considering TB Saltwater "package" or ordering online too expensive at LFS which the problem is I can't see how look and well getting 50lbs of rock for the solana is to me a bit much. I may just look at 25lbs to start and them hopefully add more.

Tat where are you located? Lots of times there are l,ocal clubs that have members that are selling live rock or pretty much everything else you can think of LOL.

Nerdy I love my Solana so much that I want the bigger versions in ADDITION to LOL!!

Keep in mind the type of rock you use... I like the Haitian rock it is light weight and has lots of holes and crevices many pieces are flat and you can use it to create shelf areas... I used this in combination with dry base rock for my scape I think it turned out nice

I like your setup lone wolf you said haitian is that also called caribean?

I am not sure if it is the same I belive the dry rock that I got was Carribean rock it is much denser than the uncurred haitian rock that I got from LFS if you are in Tampa area I will be happy to give you the store names that carry it locally... The store I got it from was selling it for 3.99 lb it is curing fine... I am happy with it because it allow for lots of crevices and caves.... and doesnt look like a big pile of bolders....

I picked up a used Solana on my way home from work today. Setup was easy as it was an existing system. I'll give it a couple days to settle in, and if the water tests come out normal I can move my clowns from the dead 24 JBJ nano and move on. I ordered the Sapphire skimmer but no eta yet, and it worked out well the box of goodies that came with the tank had a Maxi-Jet 900 pump with it. Now to order a new bulb, and the dry dock box.

Any of you Solana owners out there that have the VorTech Powerheads been able to get a "wave" going in the Short Pulse mode? I've followed the instructions on the book and watched some of the YouTube Videos with no luck...I know it can be done...

I've got mine doing a wave. They're not near as big as the ones in the vortech videos, but in all their videos there is a lot less water to move. Just make sure your vortech is close enough to the top of the tank.
