Trigger are you still using the stock filter pads???

Just the black one in the over flow. I wore that blue one out, and now use filter floss in the second chamber, somtimes on the bottom below my bagged chemipure, purigen and sea gel, sometimes on the top grate where the blue pad was...sometimes both.

Fuge light added
PICS HERE just sharing what's been working for me.

I simply got rid of my stock skimmmer
added some cheato to first chamber
purchased the 8 inch 4 watt T5 mini fixture at walmart
it works.

First off I am sorry if this has been asked before.

Has anyone put a nano wavebox in a Solana?
I noticed that Solana's water level is pretty close to the top of the rim of the tank.

Thanks
I tried one in my Cardiff which is the same, but rounded in front. It worked really well, but took up too much room in the tank. If I was just setting up the tank, I probably would have incorporated it into the back of the tank some how. Either cutting the angled portion of the over flow away on one side and butting the box there or by putting just the pump in the overflow and use the over flow as the wave box. I also thought about building a custom triangle shaped box to fit the corner.

What carbon do you use?
Any carbon I have used is cleaner then what is in the Elite. I use High grade bulk carbon I bought in a local group buy in a 50 pound bag. It is very clean and just needs a light rinse.

I've noticed my ChemiPure Elite lets little bits of stuff out when I take it out and clean it every week. I suppose these things are getting in my tank display as well?

What do you suggest using instead of Chemi Pure but for the same benefit?

Hey guys.... I'm new here but have been browsing the thread to learn more about the Solana. And thanks to you guys, I decided to order one from my LFS.
Getting the tank, stand and disco-ball 150W MH pendant. It comes in this upcoming Thursday.
Will be using 2 modded Tunze 6025's for flow and will control everything via a Reef Keeper Lite L3.

Figured I'd post and join the Solana crew. Cant wait to set it up.

Thanks guys. Cant wait to pick it up.

How much substrate and live rock are you guys running in your Solana's?
Trying to determine exactly what to pick up from the LFS when I get the tank.

I was thinking maybe 40lbs of sand (half live/half reg) and 40lbs of LR. Should be sufficient for a Solana right?

I have 20lbs of sand in mine and it's almost 1.5 inches deep which I think is perfect. I also have about 22lbs of live rock which leaves quite a bit of open space which I like but most people like a little more than that. I don't know that I would do 40 though but that it just my oppinion.

I'm getting one too! I found a great deal at fish.com for tank/stand shipped for about $465.

I almost had it, but then this happened yesterday...

You will have very little luck getting on shipped to your via UPS or FedEx without damage. I would not chose to do it this way.
I would go to a LFS and have them order one from their distributor, which will ship it properly, undamaged and you can get it from the LFS (local fish store).

That is the only way I would do it, otherwise even if it does make it to your door seemingly undamaged, it might be broken when you finally open it up and thats a PITA to wrap back up to ship back.

Really, the UPS and FedEx folks throw it around like garbage.

From experience, I accidentally put 40lbs of sand in mine, its WAY TOO MUCH. Use 20lbs or less, otherwise your bottom is like 2-3" deep. 40LR is good, but sand, no way...unless you want the bottom that deep?

hi guys i would like your opinions since you have had solanas much longer then me and could probably give me the best option. im looking to get a MH fixture for my tank right now and im not sure how many whats to get.

so my question is what is better for a mixed reef in my solana a 150W or a 250W??????
