goldreef, it really depends on your livestock and how everything is situated. Do you have a picture of your tank you can put up?

I may be getting rid of that big zoa colony on top.

Fish: 1 Maroon clown, 1 green chromis, 1 Coral beauty, 1 clown fairy wrasse and 1 blue spotted jawfish.

that's a nice tank Goldreef.. It's a bit of a tough choice, but if it were my tank, I'd put it on the left side about 3-4 inches or so from the top. I'm saying this mainly b/c of your rockscape.. it looks like there's more of an open scape on the right hand side.

You can do a dry box and put it in the second chamber if you want as well.

Was thinking about the same place... thanks for the input :) I can't wait for the damned thing to get here already lol...

Hello Everyone,
I have read through this whole thread over the course of a couple of days.
I am considering buying a Solana as my only tank because
I believe it would be easier to move when the time comes (about a year and a half).
My big question to everyone who has a solana as their primary tank is:
Do you wish you would of bought a bigger tank to begin with?
I really want to get one, but the fact of it really only being 15" deep bothers me...
Does it really make that big of a difference to you?
Did you find yourself packed to the rim with livestock and corals too fast?
I am considering doing the Solana 60XL, but i like the idea of the AIO,
because it has the potential to save me space in the future.
I could run better equipment (mainly media reactors) with a sump though... Any thoughts?

Hey TrueBlue.. welcome to this side of the board. I just bought a Solana, and it's not 15 inches tall.. It's taller than that.

If you want a bigger tank, go for it. I'm happy with this size, but it's honestly the biggest tank I can reasonably fit in my apartment (I live on Long Island.. lol) and still afford to make look really nice.

I think this is a great tank with good dimensions.

My only word of caution: To me; if you're going to spend that much money on a Solana XL.. you should look into other rimless tanks.. I'd go with the Elos systems over the Solana XL any day. Oceanic just came out with a really nice Rimless tank as well, and you can choose your lighting/sump/skimmer/etc components.

I should rephrase myself in a couple of spots...
I meant 15" front to back because of the filtration space taking about 4 or 5 inches.
And I would probably have a tank custom made, i was just saying the same dimensions (24" cubed) and with a sump.
I am just going to replace the skimmer and probably pump, get a better light and custom stand.
I would mod it i every way possible, throwing my own twist in where I can .
I am thinking i might be moving to a studio apartment with my girlfriend in the near future.
I don't want something too big to fit when the time comes, but whats another 4 inches... Right?

I think in that case a 24 inch tank will work out well.

On an unrelated note.. I think I've asked this before, but has anyone drilled their solana? I really want to use a sump.

I saw that sapphire aquatics makes an overflow box for the solana with a sump that fits in the stand. I've debated doing that, so you might check that route out.

So my Solana is set up - waiting for an rodi adapter to come in tomorrow from marinedepot. And man that stand was a pain in the a to put together. Two screws broke in the hinges for the door but I improvised with better screws from home depot.
So it will be started tomorrow with sand and live rock being added sunday.

So now that I'm going to start it tomorrow I'd appreciate any tips on what to keep in the tank and what to take out (ie filter floss, bioballs, etc). I know its probably been covered somewhere in this thread or the last one but that's too much info to read through haha.
Whatever info you can give me ill appreciate it. Thanks!

Nirvana, in my case I removed the bio-balls and put LR rubble in the second chamber along with a carbon bag on top of the rubble, and after a while that blue pad that came with it got filthy and replaced it with filter floss. Been working for me, just my two cents.

Edit; I found out that at least the sides and back are not tempered and its drillable. This was reported from a person who said they spoke with currents customer service dept themselves. So that's good

I want to drill the back so I can add a sump and keep my er rs-80 skimmer.
Also, I want to remove the back wall and make a custom overflow, elos style for the tank

nice. no one has ever tried this
(too much risk/not worth it due to ALL IN ONE factor
/not too much info on the glass itself)
good luck and post lots of pics
f.
