Dear all,

My lights 2 Kessill 360WE was 21 cm above water surface and my 4 T5 was14 cm above water surface . I set my Kessil at 76 % color and 80% intensity for 5 hours in a 12 hours light on duration. Is the below pictures show sign of bleaching to my corals ?

Kindly give your kind advises!

By the way , wish you all happy Chinese New Year . We are celebrating Chinese Lunar new year . This year is year of the Goat! I wonder why they don't have year of Corals?

Cheers,

MD

It's clearly not happy, and is looking browned out. However, not technically bleaching, though may be lightening in color. IT's not clear from your first post... Are you running Kessil's and T5's, or did you switch from T5's to Kessil's?

Have new year to you, and enjoy the celebration!

Some kindergarten questions here !

Hi Peter,

Thanks for reply.

I have 2 kessil 360WE combo with 4 T5.

Is it because light is too close or need to hang it higher ?

Wish everyone a happy Chinese lunar new year !

It is really hard to tell. Will need a lot more tank info to give advice. Do you know the par? What are your Tank parameters. How long has it been there. What is the rest of the tank doing.
Please give more info

Were you running t5 and added the LEDs at a later date. Those kessils pump out a lot of light. When I transitin from t5 to LEDs it took me months to get the lights up to 60% without upsetting corals. Then when I went from sols to hydras I had to adjust again as uv was now in the mix.

I would cut back your total photo period to not more than 10 hours, and closer to 9 would be my suggestion. However, looking at your photos, I feel there may be some parameter issues or perhaps a pest. In the top photo (is that the most recent?), it seems there is some recession at the base.

Thanks for your very nice response with advises , here are some reply to your questions ;

1) water parameter: generally speaking my water parameter is just within the range, last check;
KH : 8.20 - 8.60 dkh
Ca : 440 ppm
Mg : 1360 ppm
No3 : almost undetectable
Po4 : 0.03 - 0.11 ppm

2) My Kessil 360We have been running almost a year and I recently added 4 T5 HO
My lights running 12 hours a day , based on your suggestion I think I have to reduced it to 10'hours or at least 9 hours .
My Kessil color set at 72% for six hours in a day , while intensity running at 70% for six hours in a day , my Kessil is 21cm above water surface and tank depth is 60 cm but my corals are about about 10 cm below water surface.

3) the Recession at the base of one of my corals happened at QT when I suddenly dose much Alk in a short period of time but it stop recession for quite a long while now.

I wonder if the colors of my corals is due to lights or other stuff. I believed there are no pest as I quarantined my corals and dip in corals RX prior to transferring to DT.

Hope anyone can help me find the proper way to keep these corals happy .

Cheers,

MD
