Sunny, would you stop both MB7 and Vodka? The algae did not pop up until I started the MB7, about 12 days before I started vodka.

If it goes away during that week, is there anything I can do to prevent it from coming back once I strat back up?

I dont think that the MB7 would be causing cyano issues. If anything, it should be combating the cyano. Whenever I have had an outbreak of cyano I would stop the vodka and continue on with the MB7. After a week, the tank was clear again and the vodka dosing was restarted.

Sunny I have been dosing for about two weeks, and I am noticing my corals, especially my reds fading. Do you think this could be from too much like since the water is clearer?

Thx

While a shock in lighting can cause some corals to "bleach", I dont think that is the issue. Unless of course they have really lightened up. When I first started dosing MB7/Vodka my corals grew pale because of the lack of nutrients in the tank. After I started feeding the fish more and adding AA's my corals darkened up a bit.

You may want to test out you PO4 and NO3 and see what the results are. Also, dropping your photoperiod by 1 hour a day will help darken up pale corals.

Hey Sonny, quick question. I've been dosing MB7 for a couple of months now on my 150gal, total water volume is probably about 170gal. What's the long term maintenance dosage for this size tank? Thanks

I would do 1 drop per 25gl daily, so 7 drops a day in your case. :spin3:

hey sunny, awesome and infomative thread!, had a quick question i know its been discussed when i read threw as much as i can from a while back, just cant seem to find it now. i apologise!

been dosing a vsv mixture for a while, but wanted to stop and try MB7 with it. how long should i stop vodka before i start dosing mb7?

Well, just when things are going well something always seems to happen. Got home today to find the electricity off after a strong storm. I had holes drilled in my pvc to suck air and they have always worked before but apparently they had encrusted enough not to work. Looks like I lost about 50 gals of water on the floor. I had to mix up 32 gals just to get enough back in my sump to get the return pump back on line. I still need another 20 gals or so to top off but at least I'm back running. Many of my sps were sticking out of the water. Hope it didnt hurt them too bad, along with adding newly mixed water without giving some time to mix. After getting powered back up everything seems to be OK. I guess I'll just up my mb7 dose for a couple days to compensate for the lost water? What do you think.

I keep a close eye on my tank and whenever I see the slightest hint of slime I stop dosing vodka. After a week I start up the vodka once again. I would continue to dose MB7 as it should help out compete the red slime for resources.

And when you start up dosing again, I'm guessing you have to start dosing as if you never had dosed vodka before?

If you have been adding VSV for a while then you should have no issues adding MB7 to your dosing schedule. Just be sure to start the MB7 up slowly(low dosage since you are already dosing VSV), and have a properly sized skimmer.

Good luck!

Thank stinks! :(

Hopefully your SPS will be alright. Adding a little extra MB7 would be a good idea. This way, at least the bacteria can help to stabilize the system.

Well, I went to the LFS last night and picked up some Brightwell's Salt mix. I have heard many good things about the salt so I decided to try it. I will be doing a water change later on this evening so we will see how it goes. I have been using RC for years do this is a big step.

I'm curious as to what the Ca and Alk actually are on the Brightwell mix. I run a zeo system and keep my alk at 7.5 dkH. This reduces my choices of salt greatly. Currently using Get Tanked salt. Have used reefers best in the past. They are both pretty pricey.

If you have time, can you please run an alk test on it after it has set for an hour or more? I would appreciate it !

Ill get you guys a test of the CA and ALK. My MG test is expired so I wont be able to get those numbers for you.

I almost order'd brightwells salt last week but decided to hold off and stick to what I normally use. I didnt think it would be long before you tried it since you pretty much stand behind brightwells products. Curious to what you think about.

Some of the reports I just read about the salt have been mixed so we will see what happens. I still still think Instant Oceans brand is the best out there but I was curious to try a new salt brand.

I am thining about changing salts as I have been using Oceanic for years and my cal and alk stay so high I only am dosing 20 ml of both cal and alk per day on about 200 gallons f total water volume!!!...this keeps my alk at 8 ppm and my darn cal has been as high as 560!! For those using RC how have you liked it and do you have to dose anythng to your mixed saltwater to bring it up to your tank's levels??? How about Seachems reef salt??? my LFS does not carry too many brands... only IO, RC, Oceanic and seachem
