Source of RO/DI

I live in dana point. OTHER THAN A LFS, what's a good local source for cheap RO/DI? Does anyone use the grocery store ones with any luck?

What's the best store-bought brand (arrowhead, etc?)

I wouldn't trust one at a Grocery Store. I can only imagine the gunk in those machines.

If you get a handheld TDS meter, you could try a few places and see how clean the water actually is.

I've used arrowhead before, but that was an emergency so I couldn't tell you if that is a good or bad idea.

Arrowhead... Hel* no!

Dude, invest in a r/o unit. It saves in the long run. You can get them used.

So what's wrong with Arrowhead Tanu? My mother used like 10 bottles to top off when she ran out of RODI that I drop off. I had a bad feeling after she did that, but I haven't noticed any signifant differences.

I change 15 gallons in my 58 + sump every two weeks.

I used arrowhead when I was a newb and let me tell you..,

algae breakouts galore!!! Maybe not in the beginning but, sooner or later it'll get to your corals.

You know I have been getting some hair algae over the last few months... nothing major, but its there. My parents have been caring for the tank, which I attirbuted to my mom and sister overfeeding the tank. Maybe not.

I've always had po4 levels above .1 in this tank.

The tank will be at my new place next month, so I'll be stepping up the maintenance, run a po4 reactor, and sell my ASM g1 which I absolutely hate.

Surprisingly, the SPS corals look great!

Arrowhead Cody? You could have at least splurged on the Fiji Water =)

But yeah get a TDS meter to check you total dissolved solids.

I would also invest in a RO / DI system. Save yourself some gas =)

Oh, you know, now why do you think I don't want to run a po4 reactor... something else my mother and sister have no clue about or how to maintain. Well at least she had enough sense to not let the pumps run dry in the sump!

Yeah, buy an RODI so I can use yours!

The whole point of this is not to buy an RODI machine or go to an LFS! I dont consider $200 cheap.

Ok so not arrowhead.

Then I would suggest staying at your LFS, but 200$ cheap when you factor in 40 cents a gallon, plus gas, time, and not knowing exactly how good the water is... but who am I to say anything I still do the LFS runs and use my money for corals LOL
:spin1::spin1::spin1:

You should have posted this in the original post. That's why I said to invest in a r/o system. Btw $200 in this hobby is chump change my friend. Wiat til you get more involved... Or should I say addicted! Lol

Oh i'm addicted enough. Do I want to get an RODI machine? Yes. Can I afford one now? No. Thats where you guys come in.

I'm talking about, if i can't make it to the LFS, and CVS or Ralph's is a better option, what brand of water could I go with?

Ive gone to the local water stores in my area before. The water was fine in my tank, and I didnt have an out break. Not so sure about the grocery stores. I agree 200 isnt cheap but if you factor in the cost of water at the water stores or fish store and the # of gallons you can get out of 1 ro/di filter in the long run you come out on top. also depends on the size of you tank for a small tank I would just go to the LFS

why not just ask a fellow reefer who has an r/o d/i unit to either hook you up with water or sell it to you for cheap...?
