I have a 36g corner now with a canister filter but just bought a 75rr from Randy.I have time to build because we are selling our house in tonawanda and looking to move towards hamburg area.I am going to try to make a sump/fuge but going to need help in alot of areas.1st ? what is the best paint to use on the back of the tank?next ? for now is what size return pump and make for this size tank with the sump under the tank not in basement.

I'm using an eheim 1262 under my 75, and I find that to be a bit heavy for flow. I branch some of the return line into my fuge, and it's still heavy on flow. I'd recommend something like a mag 7 or eheim 1260.

Roll on Rustoleum High Gloss Black. You'll need 3 coats or so b/c once the lights come on, they will expose any light spots. Otherwise it works like a champ. I've done my 2 tanks that way and I gave the left overs to ABC Reefs who did ALL of their tanks that way.

*sump size depends on what will fit in your stand...
40 breeder would be sweet if it fits.

*pump sizing depends on what your drains can handle and how much flow you want. Don't forget to calculate head. Mag 7 would not be enough in most cases IMO. For example: on my 75 mixed reef I ran a Little Giant 4MDQ.

I have a 30g tank but a 40breeder looks better guess I have to start checking craigslist more I will probably be making my own stand and canopy

hey- if you already have a 30 I'd use it.

you just need to design it so it will catch all water that drains in event of power failure.

Good point on the flow. I definitely wouldn't be comfortable with the mag 7 being the only source for flow for the tank.

My understanding was that you'd want enough flow going through the sump to match your skimmer, and that additional flow for the tank would be supplemented with powerheads or a closed loop. And that any additional flow through the sump could cause micro bubble problems. Of course, I got away with ignoring that advice.

The added space in the 40 would be excellent, but it might be more challenging to build a stand for it, since the 40 and 75 have the same length. Well... challenging for me, anyway, because my carpentry skills are very basic ;)

could not wait anymore we where to be in our new house back in aug but 2 days before we moved in the bank put a short sale on the house we thought we bought.we are now waiting on paper work to go through and had to move into an apartment and figured if I start to cycle this tank and just when I can transfer stuff from my 36 the bank will say go and move into the house.

Very nice rock work.
what kind of tang is that? Sorta looks like a PBT but it's not blue.

I can't believe you let a damsel in your tank, those mean fish...
