Spot Face Surgeonfish

Acanthurus maculiceps, Blue Zoo Aquatics has them in stock, just wondering if anyone has had one before? Looks very similar in shape and size to a Sohal, wondering if they have the same nasty disposition?

Thanks

Mine is ultra mellow. He never gets mad at anything. every once in a while, he'll swim and "push" away the chevron, but never flares, or causes ANY damage. His name is "mellow yellow".

Nice....How big is he? How is his adult coloration? kind of a dark pic on the website, I love the face though...Thanks!

When they get larger they are getting really agressive.

An importer I know put one 10" specimen with larger A.fowleri who were in the tank few days before the A.maculiceps and allthe A.fowleri were more or less punished to the point they had to be removed to a new tank.

FME small specimens never have problems with other Acanthurus species if given enough space and food.

Mine is 8" easy and he is the nicest tang I have ever seen. I understand this may be my individual, but he obvioulsy doesnt know what genus he's in. Here is a pic when he first went in the display. He is really "lemony" in color. The coolest thing about them is they change color instantly. he is jet balck at feeding, the typical olive/chesnut color most of the time, and periodically a very pale cream color, as seen here.

He/she is a beauty...Thanks for posting.

ive had one for a few months and certainly the most peaceful tang that i've owned. we'll see if that hold true after i add a bariene and achilles this weekend. but so far very easy going and the colors are second to none.

Hope to hear how that comes out, I would love to have multiple Acanthurus tangs in the 240 I am doing, I had an Achilles for 5+ years in my last tank, he was very nasty to new additions, but it was only 6 ft. tank. It seems all my favorite Tangs are from that aggressive family.

i must have a bad egg mine is 6" and lets any new additions he own's the tank he killed a copperband last week and he chases my midas blenny if he gets with in a foot of him. though he is a beautiful fish mine looks just like jmaneyapanda's but no streamers yet
