Sps corals and full tank shot

gota stop by again and say what an amazing tank you have! i am starting to do my wn home brew dosing regiment. i love the natural look of your tank, it is truly inspirational!

Thank you for all of the feedback. I feed the tank pretty heavily because there is 13 fish in there which is hard to believe because they are always hiding when I am in front of the tank with a camera. I feed the fish once or twice a day with nls pellets and ocean nutrition green veggie flakes. I used to spot feed the corals rotifers and coral frenzy at night time once a week. I didn’t notice an increased growth rate when i was spot feeding but i got lazy and gave it up. Now, i just take a pinch of coral frenzy every second day and rub it between my fingers in the display tank. I also add 2 drops of zeovit coral vitalizer every second day.

Lighting is 6 bulb aquaticlife T5:

3x kz superblue
2x kz new gen
1x kz fiji purple

I have tried every bulb combo under the sun over the past 5 years and this is by far my favourite combination yet.

equipment:

-BM 100 skimmer
-powerheads are k3 and k1 but i might up it to a k3 and a k2
-aquaticlife 6bulb t5ho
-50g tank 36x18x18
-20g sump with polyfilters to clean out dertrius
-Tank temp is at 80f but i would prefer 78
-I run my blues and fiji purples 11hrs a day and my daylights 9hrs a day

If there is anything else feel free to ask!

Tank looks great but if you lower your daylights to 5 hour a day your colors will get more vivid.

I have reduced my photo period of daylight cw LEDs from 12 hrs to 8 hrs and have seen color coming back slowly. I think reduction of your photo period is dependent on your par. Less isn't more on some cases ;)

Is this from experience? I am more than willing to try it if others have had success in the past doing the same thing. I run my bulb time as follows:

10:30am 10:00pm
kz superblue x3
kz fiji purple x1

11:00am 8:30om
kz new gen x2

What would you suggest as an alternative? Bulbs have about 5 months use on them now.

tank looks awesome man. I love seeing the tanks that look so healthy with a more minamalist approach on the equipment side.

Your tank looks great, Chris. I am going to setup a 65 in Jan 2012 and if it looks half as good after 10 months, I'll be very happy.

Photo period should only be no more then 5h of day light . When over 5 you exhaust the zoanthids is the sps .

I have read just about every T5 thread i could find, talked with tons of reefers and I don't know anyone who runs there T5 lights for 5hrs. I am not saying your wrong, I am just saying it might not be enough light with my fixture. I can see why you might want to run MH for 5hrs a day but most people run t5's for 10-12hrs a day. I shortened the photoperiod last night by an hour and I may do it by another hour in a week or so.

Does anyone have any pictures of sps tanks running a short photoperiod with T5's?
