SPS Dominated 47G Reef

I'm off tomorrow too Sahin, going to suck out most of the sand during another big water change. What is the vitaliser stuff supposed to do mate, doesn't sound like you saw good results.

Hope it all goes well mate. Just ensure you have plenty of premixed water hanging around. -You dont want to use any of the water that gets taken out with the sand...the sandbed will have all sorts of crap in it.

Since I designed my plumbing to completely isolate and still circulate without the display, when I do large water changes, I can remove water from the display, pump old water from the sump into the display, and then put the new water into the sump and let it run for a few hours before connecting the sump to the display... I dont know if this is even helpful or useful, its another one of many things I do for my corals. And fingers crossed, I havent lost a single coral for a VERY long time.

The Coral Vitaliser by KZ is supposed to be SPS coral food. The issue is that I am not sure which (the CV or the Alk drop) which caused the browning.

I'll be consulting with young Bello before I ever decide to dose any KZ stuff into my tank. Hopefully the Sneaky Acro Man wont give me fake advice.

PS I've just paid for a years Photobucket subscription...so the photos in the early part of the thread should be working now. :)

Sahin,

Are you not supposed to be attending to your inlaws now instead of doing a sneaky being on here? (or perhaps they have not arrived yet!)

Sahin, you're breaking the revered "PIC" rules. We must have them pics!!!!

I'd try out that top down method you were talking about, but it was all greek to me (I'll get Mike to translate :p).

BTW, I'm still having a horrible time getting my pink millie to colour up as well. Hoping a change in LED config will help.

I'll get some pics up tomorrow Bello...there are only rules for tank wars...and only because we know Biggles likes to cheat... :p

If you use a DSLR, buy a circular polariser sized for the lens you want to use to take top down shots of the display. This will cut out a lot of light, but it also magically takes out the LED spots that appear as a reflection on the waters surface.

I am seriously kicking myself for the dumb things I've done with my tank the past few months...My Pink Mille was a HOT PINK; so I know my system has no problem colouring it up...its my dumb acts which caused it to brown out again.

Oh they came yesterday...but that doesnt stop me from getting on the net and posting away about reef stuff. If the wife gives me the evil look for being on the Laptop, I still have my phone...I just pretend I'm texting my buddies...

Thanks mate, only using the new artificial salt now and so far i've replaced 50% of the old water with just a few frags RTN'ing over the change lol. :crazy1: I can remove 50L from the sump and replace it if needed much like you but at the moment i have about 10 acros out of the water during a 20% change due to the sand sucking so i have to get water back in the display pronto - forgot to turn the halide off today while they were high and dry - they didn't like the radium much with no water between them and it lol.
Maybe wait until you get things settled and colored again before sperimenting otherwise the results will be hard to attribute to one thing or another. Bello is the man to go to for reef potions and other warlocky reef stuff, he PM'd me the other day asking if i had any bat wings and frog eyes to spare as he was making up some more additives apparently.........

Hope the job goes smooth for you mate :). Are you going to add some more sand and if so what are you putting in?

Great tank Sahin. Just finished going through the thread. Love the bb tanks, and yours is another fine example, thanks for sharing.

The 3 (Biggles, sahin, Bello) of you are too funny! Beautiful tank!

Thanks for the compliment regarding my tank and I'm glad you like the adventures of the 3 Acro Musketeers...however, tensions are running high and unlike the legend, the 3 of us have now commenced Acro Wars...

This will be a long and drawn out battle...expect eye blinding transmission of electromagnetic radiation, explosive colours, an army of of multi coloured warriors as strong as rock...this will be a dirty war (because Biggles doesnt play by the rules...:furious:)...there may tears (Kevin can get a bit soft at times...being Biggles' sidekick do you expect anything else :p)...weapons of mass colouration will be bought in moments of craziness with complete disregard to the state of monetary affairs...this is a war spanning several continents...:fun2:

Nice looking stuff!
Thanks for the compliment. My tank and corals are no match to your level of success, but I can strive to achieve something similar. :)

Thank you for taking an interest in my thread, and thanks for the nice compliment.

Hey Sahin mate could you clean out your PMs please so I can send you more:)

Hi mate, I had many PM's about the ATI LED PM etc that my inbox got almost full...and then Biggles sent some abusive PM's to completely disable my inbox...something about his Radium lights being "better" than my T5/LED's...and some rude words apparently from Kevin...:eek2:

Lol Biggles does seem to talk it up a bit, but you just show him what your lights can do:thumbup:.

Hey Sahin,

Glad you are feeling better lately. Hope that trend continues. But like everyone else on here I must say that we need more pics.:deadhorse:

Looking forward to seeing some tomorrow.

Yeah me too, feeling a lot better hence I took some pics this morning as I promised.

So you are competing in the cyber coral war then Sahin

Yes. Biggles and his flashy sidekicks Shortcake Roo and Kevin Koala are going to get a run for their money...

Sneaky Bello, this ForestFire Digitata is for you; the green blob at the far right is a green new branch tip of the FF (Its now really getting the deep strong green). I snapped off a colony the size of my hand and gave to my LFS as this coral grows too fast. This piece is located right on my overflow box around 4/5 inches below waterline so VERY hard to photograph:

Some Green for Biggles, as I know deep down he loves Green Acros:

I love this piece, (with the tank lights off this piece looks solid purple) Some of the colour has been blown out...should have exposed a tiny bit less:

Another one for Sneaky Bello, my PINK Mili. Wasnt going to take a photo of this, but when I looked at it top down this morning, I realised most of the branches have turned bright pink again, the long polp is white, but the shorter polyps are still brown. Took two shots at slightly different angles:

And Another shot for Acro War Cheat, Biggles (:p) :

This next piece is a large colony now, grown from 1.5inch frag: This is getting around 500 PAR...due to the recent browning, I've cut back feeding slightly, and this piece has lightened up a tiny bit, but still looks pretty good. Its smashed by the MP10's from both sides and loves the flow...has awesome Polyp Extension:

Next up is my Red Planet. This has browned a little...was looking much happier. You cant see the whole colony, but this was grown from another 1.5inch frag and is now a large colony. Its getting hit by around 300 PAR and so the green is only present in the deeper parts of the branches.

Now to finish off this photo session with my beloved Orange Koala Passion Acro closeup. Love the colours on this piece. Regardless of whats happening with the tank, ALWAYS has great colour. I picked this up as a 1inch frag from a private collector in the UK...this guy imports SPS himself (with CITES permits etc) and sells out of one of his spare room converted into small coral farm:

The browned out stuff is recovering...as is the case with SPS; I just need to keep things stable and be patient.

After all the hard times I've had so far this year, seeing my corals looking better and better each month, I'm glad I have the tank.

The plan for the next 3 months is no more feeding experiments, no more testing potions, no more Alk drops. :crazy1:

Wow sahin brilliant colours and your photograpy is exceptional! Love that Orange Koala Passion Acro! I'll have to find a koala down in Aus and hit him up for a frag :lmao:

Ummm i dunno what to say really Sahin.......... just stunning my friend, both the colors and the photography.
That pink milli looks just like the one i killed recently lol - kind of electric pink looking if you know what i mean, love that one buddy :)

WOW Sahin those corals are amazing and your photography isn't too shabby either:D. I think we have a real battle royal here:)

Sahin, this is a deliberate act of provocation in Tank Wars :blown:, just you wait :p

Beautiful pics, Sahin, the photography is top notch . All the acros look great, I have no clue what "browning" you're moaning about :p. If possible, do you remember what the NO3/PO4 levels are at now?
