sps good growth washed out pale color

So I'm trying to figure out why my sps has the above features. For example my acros have decent color in the tips but are tan in the rest of the colony and a red monti cap is more orangey than red. Mind you these corals didn't start out like this. I'm using illumagic leds the. Remember good growth but lost most of they're color any ideas?

IME for some reason leds do this, my monti turned pink and a green digi turned light green and beige. This was with the radion. I had to reduce the intensity and play with the spectrum to get the corals to turn back to the original colors. IMO, the PAR from leds affects the coral differently. For example my red monti cap is doing perfect in a dark spot at about 40 PAR.

Ya, I'm not sure all leds have the software to adjust everything as the radion. But, you mentioned everything is on max..that might be the problem right there. I can't use my leds higher than 75% or things get pale. Btw, corals use a substance called MMA to shield themselves from UV. If the coral has not been exposed to UV in a while it will need to rebuild that protection. If they are tank raised corals it may take a lot longer for the coral to build up this protection. (Dana Riddle) So its possible UV leds especially on max can do more harm than good.

Well lets take a tally of whos who. 1 acro frag has been in captivity for years, 2 are wild caught a few months ago. The monti has been captive for years also. These all came from metal halides. This one particular acro in my friends tank is turquise with purple tips under 400watt halides but in my tank it has purple tips with some faint green towards the tips, the rest tan. His par at that frag is about 700 my frag is at about 330. So in this case captive or wild doesnt seem to matter all that much but maybe I'm wrong.

Post up a full water test and info on your feeding and dosing. Turn the lights down to about 65-70% for a few weeks and see if colors come back.

K so I did a full test PO4 0, Nitrate 0, Alk 8.5, PH 8.1 this morning, Calc 450, mag 1300. One clown fed every other day. And I dose with a liquid 2 part and a mag supplement when needed.

I have had same problems with my AI sol So I cut back on time scale and light intensity - don't treat the number treat the colors - turn the. Down and watch for color - reefing is very much like medicine , you treat the patient not the lab values -

Turn the what down? I turned the whites down from 100 to 75 percent.

Wonder if its nutrients related I should note that I added the clown about 2 weeks ago this tank didnt have any fish in it for the last few months.

I think that's the idea. I run my little frag tank's white LEDs (on my AI Nano) at like 24%. I have less par than you, but I'm matching par in my display. Did you check your par after turning down to 75%??

Have you been feeding any coral food in the meantime? I would think that's a big limiter if you have pale colors.

"Feed your prawn. Feed it!"
