Alex - all I can say is WOW! Not only can you take amazing photos today. But you can take pictures of the future as well. BTW - your Cali tort appeared to have shrunk by 9/26/06. ;-)

so... agreed, that's some excellent growth and a nice looking undata (mine grows like crazy too), but here's my question. To what do you attribute fast growth rates? Flow, lighting, water changes, supplementation, feeding?

F L O W ! ! !

Is the first thing youll notice when looking at Alex's tank in person, especially if your attention goes to the surface of the water. Some of these peices we got at the same time, and we have comparible lighting per watt although mine are T5 and his are PC, but flow ratio Id have to say his is almost double. And the growth of our same peices are surpassed by his Id say by 1/3 to 1/2 times faster. He uses tap and I use RO/DI, go figure

How often do you do waterchanges Alex? And what % do you change?Again, nice time lapse photography and great corals!:)

Hey guys, I just woke up, sorry Minh, that was supposed to be 2005 funny guy... :)
The Monitpora Undata, is the same as the Idaho Grape :)

as far as water changes, I do 10 gallons per week (30%) and only add kalkwasser (tap water mixed with pickling lime) every day for top off (no drip just a full gallon a day) and like Justin said lots and lots of water flow :)
Thanks for the compliments :)

haha! my whole tank is modular. al pieces can be flipped in any direction except upside down. one of the few benefits of not having large pieces of rock :)

Very nice pics Alex... Your Cali tort's color is very light. I have a frag and it's really blue/purple. What kinda light do you have? Are you still using PC light?

Its amazing what doing waterchanges every week can do. I remember the difference when I was doing that, its been almost a month, man Im such a slacker!

Its really nice to see the biproduct of how important WC's and flow really are, I think we all at some time or another just get too wrapped up in worrying about our light requirements and skimp on the latters..

Oh *$@%! your comin over this weekend! I gotta clean up my house and my tank!!:lol2:

-Justin

Don't worry about the house, just make sure the tank is clean, is Sunday good for you, let me know what time :)
And yeah, I still have PC's and I think I'm just going to keep it that way for a lonf time :)
as far as what I call a Cali tort, I can only guess that thats ok, I think (but not sure) that was what BrentP called it when I got it from him. :) I would really like to see a picture (closeup) of the mother colony from BrentP to see how much of a difference in coloring there is between his more intense lighting and my 260watts of pc.

This is my tort... pic is not as nice as Alex's :) ...
My light is 2x250W 10K XM /w 2x54w T5 actinic.

good to hear: flow... check... I just put a Seio 2600 in my 40gallon :D only drawback.. IT"S HUGE!

You might want to try a maxijet mod instead. It's better AND smaller than the SEIO IMO

This was a done on a MJ900 tested at around 1800gph flow rate

wow.. you do appear to have extremely high flow in your tank. I got my 2600 hooked up and it's pretty insane. dhnguyen, I've read through your threads about that MJ mod, pretty cool stuff. I would have given it a shot, but I have zero resources. Stupid UCD dorms... I'm not even supposed to have a tank.. woops.. lol.
