SPS Shallow Reef Tank Build Thread

That was my thread you were refering to. that silcone cost me $40. I'm still having some problems 2 months on. I didnt get any goo but my SPS reacted to something. I emailed the manifacturer and they assured me it is SPS safe.

Im gonna have to remove the starboard and my overflow box.. razor blade it off.. and buy 100% silicone GE l... I must be cursed or something..

UPDATE:

Well, i just ordered some Marco Rocks last night (God knows when they will arrive..lol).. Im tempted into filling the tank up and seed it with some live rock while the rocks arrive.

I would second that motion unless you "cook" your Marco rock for some months. I also think you should do whatever it takes to get the old silicon out as there is no guarantee that encapsulating it will prevent a repeat of the slime.

Ok, just left a message and cancelled it.

James,

It was impossible to remove the starboard from the bottom since it was already dried. I did my best to silicone the top with 100% silicone.. I guess we'll see :)

OK, after you fill it maybe go slow and don't add any expensive livestock for a month or more until its obvious that the encapsulation worked.

Good luck,

James

Oh for sure! Right now im gonna add live rock and let is cycle...wont add anything for a while. If the goo comes back it will be in a matter of days..a week the most. We'll see..(crossing fingers).

Same thing happened to me when I set my tank up. I didnt have the goo buildup though. My water turned cloudy and stuff just started dying. What a nightmare. Im glad you figured it out.

Do you know what caused it??

i have the same type of slime in my tanks as well. First i had the “snot like green” background with the slime then i scraped it off. My tank has been set up for about year now. I got the slime like 2 months back and still have it on the coral. What cause the issues?.. I don’t know..But what I did differently was I went from Tropical Marin salt then switch to Tunze. Also I added in some Vit C and with out testing..

UPDATE:

Well, its been 5 days and no sign of goo.. Only crystal clear saltwater and new live rock :)

The goo would be here by now.. Seems like we're back in business :D..

hey clown you going to cook that marco rock? i used some in my tank and it grows algae like a son of a you know what. the real LR ive had for years wont grow any kind of algae the coralline and bacteria are much better established i guess.

I cancelled my order with them..(well, my bank had to do it..lol).. Apparently they dont know the concept of emails or phone calls..

I went with live rock, it was already cured. I wanted uncured but whatchagonnadew?. Now its just a waiting game..

So lets get this out of the way.. Maybe its just me or does Bio Spira really work??.. Ive used it before with really good success..(Sounds like a noob move..but i really think it does work..)..

What are your thoughts??

Marc,

I cant help it man!! Im an equipment junkie..lol

BioSpira can't hurt. Maybe get a few scoops of someone's sand to seed yours with bacteria.

No can do Sean... Bare bottom :D
