SPS tank from England 156 us gallons

Update time
Not a great deal of change, on the negative side I had a problem with some alphagrog. Even though I have used this for some time to frag corals (with no issues), over the last couple of months things were not quite right. Colour was down (Martin, a local reefer noticed this too) and half the sps had zero growth, the other half just kept going with slightly dimmer colours.

A couple of weeks ago I removed all the alphagrog out of the system and the change was almost instant; corals that had showed no signs of growth burts into life again, colours are now getting better, lps look happier too. So I think it is reasonable to conclude that I had a dodgy bit of alphagrog - I will not be using that again. Today some of the microfauna decided they were going to spawn on mass, sperm and eggs a plenty; this normal healthy type of activity was lacking whilst I had alphagrog in the system.#

Other news

I recently bought a copperband butterfly fish, the main purpose was to manage the aiptasia as my pepermint shrimps have gone on strike. A lovely fish, he quickly started to accept frozen foods and then he decided to help me and eat all the aiptasia. After all the aiptasia were gone, Mr Copperband thought he would use his initiative, he wanted to be proactive. So he thought he'd help me some more and he decided that some of the lps needed a trim too! Mr Copperband is now in one of my frag tanks, where he has quickly made a new friend with Mr Scopas.

I've had to remove some corals as I had some colonies that had just outgrown the tank and I also needed to make space for some new bits that I had been waiting on for ages, namely a acropora echinata and a montipora setosa. I also had a huge cat in the frag system which is now back in the main tank. The corals that have been removed are my orange plating monti and an acro efflo. I've also moved one or two other bits about.

I am very pleased to report that the tank is now back on track, the corals are once again growing so fast that they're keeping my wire snips wet and hard at work with fragging sessions. There is a huge amount of new growth on all the corals, colours are almost back to where they were and no doubt given another month or so, things will be 100% again.

I also bought some chromis, I have a shoal of eight. They add so much life and movement to the tank, no doubt these will be right little devils once they start to spawn.

Later this week I hope to do a photo shoot if I get time. For now, here's a video showing the tank as of today, sorry for the poor quality it is taken off my phone:

Very colorful video. Can't believe you took it off from a phone. If you had a steadier hand, that would be real perfect.

Hello people,

It's about time I posted a few pictures to show and track the development of my fish tank.

Sods law some of my halichores wrasse decided to dive bomb into the sand when I was mid way through the shoot, I cursed and swore out loud (I'm sure they knew that would be a PITA), so I had to stop, wait and start shooting again - but if some pictures look less clear (the water) than others, you'll know who to thank! To make matters even more frustrating, I used the last of the milk with my tea and cereal this morning, so when I went to make a cup of tea whilst waiting for the sand storm to settle, I started swearing again when I realised there was no milk in the house! Give me strength!

I have a few very nice new SPS which I added to my collection, a montipora setosa (tiny bit) and a nice sized aussie acropora echinata in the best colours, which is solid white with blue tips. The aussie echinata for some reason is very hard for me to photograph, every single shot I took looks rubbish, so I will have to practice some more with my camera. I won't mention who I got these off as I know people will pester for frags, so you can ask me, but I wont say. Once these have grown out some more I will of course share some frags out off my corals. The setosa, even though still tiny has doubled in size and, for a coral that is reported to be slow growing it is growing fast in my tank.

Well that's enough guff from me, sit back, relax and, I hope you enjoy the images.

Here we go............

Brilliant corals and colours as usual Tony. I must visit you one day to look at your tank in person as well as doing those PAR and phosphate measurements I wanted to do.

Thanks Sahin, perhaps some time in December if you're free you could pop over?

a pleasure like always....great job Tony. I'm wondering when we are going to see this tank as TOTM.....

Very high praise indeed from a skilled reefer like yourself, thanks for your compliments. I ask myself the same question, but with your tank and when you'll win totm.;)

In the words of Manwell off faulty towers.....Hokey-dokey, heeerrr chomes an uppdate:

Changes:

I swapped out one of the KZ fiji purple tubes and replaced with an aquamedic reefwhite. My current lighting front to back is now:

Narva Blue
AM reefwhite
Narva Blue
KZ fiji purple
Narva Blue
AM reefwhite
Narva Blue
AM reefwhite

I don't think it has made much if any difference, time will tell if the colours alter within the coral tissue.

Some bad news:
One of the clams I had died recently and to make matters worse it was a friends! It had pinched mantel disease since it went in and it never shook it off, I tried several 30min fresh water dips over the course of a few weeks, no improvement, then several months later it died.

The other bit of bad news, my much loved acropora echinata that Jawsee gave me STN, well it is still STN-ing, although it is almost 100% gone now. I tried everything to save this, moving it, fragging it but I just could not stop the sod stripping. Ever so slowly, it went from the base up, as did all the frags from it which were in various locations in the main tank and frag tank.

I have a few aiptasia, so my copperband went back into the main display, this time he forgot to eat aiptasia and went straight for my trachys! Git bag! So he came out, I'm sorry to say I lost a trachy, not any old trachy but my hotest trachy. Git git git!!!!

Last bit of bad news, the carpet nem has so far eaten:
8 Chromis
1 Aiptasia eating filefish
1 tuxedo urchin
A few sps frags that got dropped in it by accident whilst I was giving the tank a hair cut

The good news. All the other corals are growing like the clappers, the tank just keeps developing. I've done this photo shoot a bit of the wrong way around as I've trimmed a lot then done the shoot - I should have left it alone until I could be bothered to get the camera out but who cares, this is no show boat it is my reef and this is part of it's progress. I still have more trimming to do, but my frag trays are again full up.

New stuff:
I have bought a lovely squamy clam, it is at the front of the tank.

Also a new grey and orange scolly.

I have also added a few bits of new monti, some very rare frags but I struggled to get a good photo, so only one of them will have it's photo on show today.

My most prized SPS is the setosa, this is doing very well. It has trippled in size, it has now gone from microscopic chipping to tiny frag! Lol!

Here's two bad shots followed by one good one:
