have a newish SPS that is suffering from rapid tissue loss .
all parameters are okay and only this newish sps has this .
have cut of dead parts and re glued but still going.
last hope yesterday to two frags off it and dipped both in small container of water with two caps of iodine in it then glued in different lighting and flow area's .

SPS are generally quite hardy given the right parameters. When an SPS strips it usually means there is something wrong with the water/parameters or pests. Pests however cause a much slower death.

In order to offer advice we would need to know the basic parameters and what type of system you keep, as well as the chemical filtrations employed.

Cutting can sometimes work in stopping RTN/STN etc.

It's really called RTN not RTL. Rapid tissue narcosis

Michael, that made me laugh! Sorry dude, dont mean to offend but I did laugh out loud when I read that.

RTN = Rapid Tissue Necrosis

Narcosis = loss of consciousness induced by narcotics.

In any event, I think the OP might have meant Rapid Tissue Loss (RTL). :D

corral did die but I think a tiny piece is still alive (I broke off and moved to different location)

Most of the time when sps have died on me its been because of unstable alk....

Are you currently dosing? What are your params? Try gluing the receding skin diwn wirh some supper glue.

First if it tool 5 days to die it's not RTN, i've litterly seen a coral loose the flesh in about 2 hours.

Everything that can wait is STN ( same thing just slower).

When you have problems, never say, the parameters are correct since obviously something is wrong.

Just post them, sometimes it's the ballance, the heat, etc etc.

Parameters
SG 1.025
CALCIUM 410
KH 9
MAGNESIUM 1300
TEMP 26 C
running RowaPhos
running activated carbon
running bio beads
do not measure Phosphates or Nitrates

This is what i see.

No phophates / nitrates.

Well that all seems well. But with the current technology it's possible to keep the tank TOO clean. Yes TOO clean.

Where older reports say you want 0 nitrates and phospates it's possible now. If you do this too long, or refresh RowaPhos it can/will result in stress.

Feed some more and get the nitrates and phosphates to 0.01ppm and nitrates to 2 or 3 ppm. This might get everything back to normal.

Gotta watch that alk with the bioplastics too... Your alk gets close to 10 this can become the issue. A lof of buzz about that these days

Key word here is newish. Define newish? IMHO, the stress from transfer can trigger this, and there is nothing you can do about it. If this piece has been with you for several months (which is newish to me) and was healthy and growing then all of a sudden started to necrose, then I would look at parameters. Otherwise, you guys are looking for a problem that may not exist. My dos centavos.....

Newish is about one and half months

I think it was bugs as started on a old SPS that I have had for two years (grown from tiny frag) started losing tissue so pulled out and dipped in a seachem dip ,did 15 min in solution (did do stronger than recommended ) 4 litres and used 1.5 cup full ,supposed to use one cap .
left in sump which is on reverse lighting cycle for week then dipped again and put back in tank.
you can see the growth over tissue loss area's.
so I'm aas happy as

Check with magnifying glass originaly but still unable to see anything.
