SPS Xmas Tree Decoration Time.

Unfortunately it hasn't taken long for one of the nastier decorations (SSC) to realise he has neighbors, it doesn't bode well for the poor little blue and fluoro polyped acro down current.................
Watch it full screen HD and you'll see grumpy getting all worked up filament wise lol....... something bad is going to happen when the lights go out one night this week i think........:hmm2:

I aM amazed at your Sps the always look so healthy. Good luck with the warfair as it is likely to happen when Sps are placed that close to each other but I am sure you new that lol

This is the most creative idea I have seen in reefing. I may take a few frags of chilli pepper montipora and glue them to a tree template like that. I think it would be awesome!

Excellent thread.

kind of like a live Christmas tree you can permanently plant it after, great job always nice to see original idea!!
can't wait till easter to see what is next.

You should be able to get acrylic in different colors at any large hardware dept store chain. Your Home Depot most likely carry it in the US. I used a hand held electric jigsaw as the Dremel is too slow. A hacksaw works fine with a coarser blade than you would use on metal - less teeth is best.
I should point out that i saw lots of small plastic Xmas trees made for hanging on a real tree that are acrylic and only 3-4" tall in the shops today so using one of those would work great too and no messing about with tools.

I bought one so you would know the sort of thing i mean. Btw, i ate vegemite on toast whilst constructing the tree so you'd best duck out and grab a jar each............ it will put hairs on your chest and works great as an axle grease substitute.........

Hilarious! Biggles, this is awesome. You have some amazing colored sps.

Can't wait to see it grown in.

Not to give any idea's... but I think a GSP covered tree could easily compete. I think that would look so real! haha cool pictures though. Your tank is awesome!

Hey ho everyone, not much has changed with the tree, all the frags have begun encrusting. I did have to re glue a couple after i turned a pump off which changed the flow and blew my bloody tree down face first onto the bottom.......
All the new frags you see are a result of losing my temper whilst trying to remove an acro stinging ric. I finally pried a stylo off that he was attached to but i forgot i glued the stylo where i did to cover the epoxy join of a small rock outcrop i made. Everything came apart, acros smashed, i swore so much the skimmer shut down and the fish are still traumatised.
The acros are getting an early xmas/1st birthday present this week for being good colorful girls and boys - a 400W radium :)

That looks amazing mate! :inlove: Oh what I would do to run 400w Radiums...you lucky barshtard :D

Mate, if only you had a DSLR...the stupid Iphone cant take bloody tank pics. We would have seen that your corals so much better coloured than these photos show. They dont do your corals justice.

Your tank is so awesome, buddy!

Thanks mate, it's getting there slowly but surely :)

Thanks Sahin, appreciate it a lot coming from you mate. :) Been running the 400W Radium for a couple of days now, i need to buy another reflector so i can put the 250W Radium over the sump frag tank - might as well :smokin:

I wish i had a camera too mate lol. I can't capture any of the beautiful detail and pigmentation that you do with your beautiful acro pics. I might save up next year and get a second hand body and 100mm macro lens, obviously i'll then annoy the crap out of you with PM's about how to actually use it as well as you do lol.

Two nights ago i fed the acros reef roids and thought i'd turn a couple of pumps off for an hour.......... unfortunately this resulted in the water flow around the tree almost stopping. Prior to this stupid move i had the guilty frag's long filaments blowing sideways where they couldn't touch anything. No flow, the filaments went straight up and the SSC assassinated the frag above it in the hour the pumps were off.

Yellow Tang - " Well that was always going to happen....... stupid man thing...... " He's quite belligerent for a fish tbh.

Hey Bello, thanks for the thread, makes me laugh and smile. Have you had any problems with having your corals so close to each other? I'm starting to have the same look as I just can't stop these damn acro's from following me home. lol
