I recently made a Ca reactor, some of the quick-connect tubing tappings I used were suposed to be highest grade stainless steel. The other day i notticed that salt creep next to one has turned very faint blue color. Any ideas? is it not what i payed for or is another metal in the alloy reacting with SW?

any ideas would be helpfull, I did loose some SPS recently but It was most likely to an electrical leak in the tem. probe, they STNed from the buttom. Now i am second-guessing that this may be a problem as well.

There are a lot of types of stainless steel. Not knowing exactly what you're using, it's hard to say whether they're safe. Personally, the only metal I put in my tanks is a titanium ground probe.

I always thought stainless steel wouldn't rust but IME it does... and apparently even the highest grade
There are a lot of alloys for stainless steel. Many contain chromium which will in contact with salt water may form chromium sulfate which is bluish.
If you wish to use stainless steel (I use it externally for screws or clamps were they can be splashed) insure it is 316.
