Pirates Cove Reef
My new Lemar 100x36x25 will be ready to pick up on April 26th, 3/4" glass and it is going to be heavy and a tall lift as my stand is 46" tall. The stand has 2"x6" main rails with 3"x2" cross braces and is sitting on four 4" square 3/16th wall posts that will anchor in to the concrete. The tank will have a 9" counter and backsplash made of granite so you will be able to stand on it to service the tank.

I am going to see just how many friends I have in the Reefing community as I am going to need help lifting the tank on Saturday April 30th, so let me know if you are available. They estimate the tank at 700lb so I need a bunch of help. I am going to try and rent a ton of suction cups along with some muscle to get it in to place.

Any ideas who I might be able to rent several pairs of suction cups from:)

The stand is at Powder Coat getting a rustic Bronze finish and I will start installing it early next week so I am ready.

I am so ready for the new Tank!

The company who built it CalTime Metals in Huntington Beach say that under the stand is the place to be when the Big one hits So Cal, do you guys think it is heavy duty enough?

I am getting closer on having a big tank:)

Scott I'm in to help you lift. But that's the same weekend I'm moving my tank. I'll swing buy to help you for the lift. Or I can just delay my move a week and just give you my full blown help. You said BBQ and beer heh?

Hey Scott,

Nice stand, but I thought it was always better to have the platform rest on top of the legs to distribute the weight better instead of attaching the platform to the legs from the side like it is in the pics. Basing this thought process off the DIY stand thread but that was for wood. IDK if this applies to steel.

I can probably come help as the date gets closer, you're not too far from me but IDK how much muscle I'll bring to the table lol.

Scott hes right where is the horizontal support for the legs? Its going to hold up the tank with just the vertical welds?

It will hold it up no problem for many years. As long as they welded it right which it looks like they did, there is plenty of penetration. The weld will not break or crack unless there is a massive amount of force. And even then the tube will probably rip before the weld cracks. I own a structural steel company and my dad is a welding inspector so i have to know a lot about welding haha.

Very nice stuff!

Cool stand!

Looking at it I initially thought it alittle on the unnecessary side to over construct it, but with the world falling apart these days it seems like a true investment- especially when I read over to the gauge specs and how it's planted.

Good job! Just hope the big one doesn't consist of not just your tank shaking but the whole neighborhood being flipped over from the ground axis :P

Wood has give, metal, not so much. That thing ain't going anywhere once it has the tank on top of it...

damn scott that is a massive stand! looks ridiculously heavy! and im in to help you out if its early in the day its all good for me! i can probably bring someone help with me too! but 700lb! thats crazy talk!

I will supply the beer and the barbecue,

The stand is going to be open on the bottom and I did not want it to overpower the room as the tank is twice the size my wife wanted. My friend who built the stand said it would hold 20,000 pounds so it is not the same as all the weight on the nails of a wood stand.

I plan on putting down a 1" thick piece of plywood and a 3/8" thick black rubber Matt for the tank to sit on.

The ledge will have a granite counter top around it and the tall backsplash will overlap the tank by an inch or two to hide the bottom panel.

All the plumbing will be hid under as the cross bracing is 3" while the perimeter is 6", he even made a aluminum plate that will cover the bottom because I was worried about my kids hanging from the closed loop plumbing.

I am waiting on a few more odds and ends to come in and I will start a large tank build thread.

The stand itself weighs in at almost 300 pounds and will be here until I take a cutting torch too it. To level it he made me 4" x 4" x 1/16th inch aluminum shims that will be like large washers and I am using 1/2" redhead anchors to anchor it to the floor. I plan on putting the stand in early next week as it will be ready for pickup on Friday from Specialized Powder Coating in Huntington Beach.

I also have a 9' x 9' fish room being built in the garage and I am installing a Mini-split air conditioner with a heat pump to keep the room at 75 degrees in case the chiller has a problem. The electrical will be wired with a backup generator break out panel that will go to backup power automatic if the power goes off.

My non reef friends think I am crazy, but I am having fun:)

I am shooting for Saturday April 30th around 10am if everything goes together as planned and Lemar is done with the tank on the 26th. I am picking it up in Vista with a flat bed truck to make sure it is perfect.

Anything you guys think I should add let me know?
