starfish help

have new tank-55 gal. 6wks old-few hermits -few snails-couple firefish-35#live rock-couple frags-tube anemone-slug--and an orange starfish that looks like it is falling apart-lost part of 2 legs-and looks(bubbly)?any ideas whats wromg--s.g.-1.0235 ph-8.2 no ammonia ,nitrites or nitrates thanx
 
It could be a species of linkia which do not survive well in tanks. IMO, at 6 weeks your tank is not mature at all, and you should not even have a starfish. And you also have an anemone at 6 weeks old tank? That is also not a good thing.
 
I can say that the mainreason the starfish is dying is becasue the tank is still to new. Thye are very delicate and need very stabile water conditions. They ned a tank of atleast 6 months to have a chance.

Some serpent stars would be ok, but I agree way too soon for a star. Unless you were an expert and the tank was BIIIIG.
 
I've had two stars since day 1, and they are both thriving today.

It is now day 2.

Just kidding. It's been almost a month and they are both very happy. They were a little slow at first, but now they get around and act as they should.
