Starphire Glass Front - Tempered or Non-Tempered?

Thanks for that swearint.

Bean; Interesting links. You think the last one would sell a single piece for a tank to a retail customer?

Your best bet is to buy from a local glass dealer. If they give you an insane price, then call their bluff. A friend of mine ran his dads glass shop for years (now closed). The markup is whatever the owner thinks he can get out of you.

Recently I got prices for a "grey lite" (smoked grey glass) door for my custom in-wall AV rack. I needed (2) hinge holes and tempering. The piece was 48" x 24" I got prices from $56 to $350 for the same glass... The joke is that ALL quoted prices were resellers buying the glass from the SAME wholesaler/tempering house.

Thanks everyone. My distributor in Atlanta refused to go below $72 a sq/ft so it looks like I will be taking a vacation to Tennessee to pick up a piece of glass. Using glasscages.com as my source the glass will be Non-Tempered, and from the information posted I believe that will ultimately be the best choice for my needs.

Look for my build thread to begin soon.

ps. How about them Jackets over Miami O.o.O

Simply put, that's insane. I build tanks for a living, assuming that is 1/2" glass let me just tell you that they're overcharging you over $50 per sq/ft. I'm in Miami, and I know prices vary by city, but most things have a national average. Good luck.
Felix.

Zoos you are speaking Lo-Iron? It's sure better to have an approximate average price to work with. If $30/sqft is reasonable then I can feel confident in working down a local supplier.

Looking at my quoted prices ~$1,000/16.8sqft 3/4" = $60/sqft
Should I be looking further?

1/2" should be = ?

what would you guys think is needed for a plywood tank front thats 120x48x48. There will be a 2" plate all around to hold it so the edges wont have all the pressure. I was hoping that 3/4 low iron was possible. if there was that much contact instead of a regular tank that is just help by the silicone. Ive seen the double 1/2" ones and dont like it there are always bubbles.

I have a question, if anyone is still apart of Reef central since this post is very old! I just acquired 4 panels of tempered glass for 30$. I live on the island of Guam which has very limited tanks and they are way over priced, so DIY is my only viable option. Can I build a tank that using front/back and side panels that are tempered? The measurements are 41" x 19 1/4" and 1/2" thick. The tank would essentially only need a special ordered bottom and bracing for the euro. If i do low profile/minimalist aquascape there is no chance of a rock falling (hopefully)... will the pressure and tension be okay with this glass being used? I could even do injection method to avoid putting the pressure of the glass on each other, but more on the silicon. Also there are a few very small chips on two of the corners.
