No offense here. I really am sorry for the kids family, but there are a ton of "DO NOT ENTER" and "DANGER" signs. Plus the fence with locked gates and all. Sorry to see any one pass away, but come on...

All i have to say is wow! :D

It's taken several days, and tons and tons of reading, but I've now officially read all three parts completely!!!
This thread is incredible, it grew 5 pages in under 24hrs... :eek2:

Tswifty8, thanks for documenting everything as well as you have, I've been researching for ages, and ages, and ages, and ages, i've got multiple word docs on what each coral (I will hopefully eventually own) needs, and each fish etc, and the only thing holding me back now is money ...

But after the multiple issues you've run in to, and the fact that you've been able to get through it (and still document for all us to see) i'm getting more and more confident that when i finally get the money i'll be able to set up a brilliant reef tank, especially with the help of the club house, lol...

Now that i've finally read through all 3 bits i shall definitely be starting to comment :D

OwNeD

G-day mate! Great job reading the thread, and welcome!!! Swift is a FREAK when it comes to the details.....whenI grow up, I want to be a Tswifty too!

attention to details is a requirement for this hobby IMO along with a keen sense of observation, open mind and passion for learning---and that is T.J.

Rae you are a tswifty but please don't grow up-- I for one have had such a great time since you joined us and for one enjoy the "pixie dust" you sprinkle on us every night;)

Thanks for the kind welcome capn :D! Indeed it is, there aren't that many good reefing websites over here (but im hoping to change that sometime down the track) so i took my mouse on an international reef forum hunt and this is the one that i can't get enough of :D

AAAHHHHHHH shucks! :o

quarantine progress
Day 6
no visible signs of ich on the powder blue tang and the copper banded butterfly
the tang has been eating like a pig since day one and over the last two days I noticed the copper banded butterfly starting to eat mysis shrimp--funny he won't eat them out of the water--they have to land on something first

glad they are both doing great capn, do you have any pics for us?
did you figure out your camera?

I'll try later today---I've been concentrating on my skimmer problem--going to do the first water change in 9 weeks today on the display tank as to Marc's advice.

its been 5 weeks here, i am going to make the water tonight and change it tomorrow. the thing about summer up here, you have to do all you can before it gets cold again.

Did your new skimmer come? Someone at work last evening told me that once I have a fuge I do not need a skimmer. True or false? I would say false?

Depends on the tank. Some can get by without skimmer (even do better), but by and larger this is very rare and most tanks would benefit greatly from a skimmer and fuge. My fuges sole purpose is to have a safe place for pods to grow. I don't count on it for anything else although I did throw in some chaeto.

i would still run a skimmer, a fuge is also great at keeping the ph stable if you run the lights on it on an oppisite scheduale then your DT.
