I still can't believe everything you're going through with this skimmer.

It's good to know it still works while crippled. But what the heck... how hard can it be to ship out an impeller???

wow the fuge looks great swift!!!

when i break down the tank i will prob get the same kind of skimmer you guys have gotten, i still think your crippled skimmer > my remora C

small update

well after spending a good chunk of change in the last month, it looks like i will be holding off buying anymore livestock of any kind. going to keep the tank looking nice and saving some money to improve my current livestocks life before winter hits.
things i would like to buy or improve.
1) switch from a RO unit to a nice RO/DI unit
i got a steal on my current unit i paid $30 with new filters so i have been holding off.
2) ATO unit
3)another phosban reactor with carbon
4)not expensive but, build a "fish room" area to house my QT and hospital tank in the old laundry room.
5)build a small cabinet to sit next to the DT so i can store all my goodies

6) i would like to break down the tank and build a new stand with built in drawers and a new sump but i have 2 problems with that, A)tank is doing great and would hate to disturb it atm and b) being a custom tank i have no idea if the side glass is tempered, if i can drill it and make it RR then its np but i will hang on for awhile untill i decide to upgrade tanks in a few years if i cant.

7)kinda linked to #6, if i am not going to breakdown the tank then i am going to buy a new overflow, cpr makes me worry sometimes. i had issues with it last weekend that made me loose confidence in it. i can go into detail if anyone wants but there was no water spill lol.

i am open to suggestions or opinions

btw i would like to thank Swift for letting me and others post on this thread or clubhouse instead of making our own mini threads that most people ignore. getting opinions from reefers you have gotten to know really helps out as i am sure everyone here knows.

edit: wow even after i reread it i found somethings to change, i think i use MS word to much.

posting on the clubhouse thread--hmm I don't believe your dues are payed up:lol:

I think that is a great idea to tweak your system before adding more livestock---they will live longer and healthier.

Your list of purchases and order of jobs is also great and as you stated I wouldn't break down a tank that is running great

Wow. That is some good work! My to do list is on hold. The adapter for my RO/DI broke and I have to wait for the inline under sink attachment to make it in.

Wow, i decided I'd take the weekend off from the clubhouse, big mistake, 6 pages in two days :eek2:

Sump is looking sparkly clean TJ :D

Good to see everything is starting to settle down in the tank Capn, :)...

Haha... I have to keep checking what page we are on to see how much time I have left to get everything ready for the split

That's a nice size "to do" list

The good thing is that you should be able to complete a lot of the initial items without disrupting the livestock in your tank.

One of these days I'll get that ATO hooked up... One of these days :rolleye1:

1) If you look at the earlier post by Tswifty you can see he has added single stage components to his Ro unit. You can do the same to cheaply add a DI cartridge to your unit instead of replacing the whole thing.

2) Depending on space in your cabinet you can add a simple and cheap DIY gravity fed system like I use. you could build the cabinet that you want next to the tank to also house a gravity top off container and run the 1/4" tubing out the back and and into the stand to hook up to the sump.

3) I have made my own reactors for $7 using a old zip tie container, a set of electrical connectors used to transition to hard conduit, a few pieces of 1/2" pvc, and cut down scrubing pads to prevent the media from exiting the reactor.

4 & 5) Good luck with your fish room and cabinet

6) The strain pattern resulting from tempering can be observed with polarized light or by using a pair of polarized sun glasses. Look at the back window of a car with polarized sun glasses and you'll see what I mean.

7) If aint broke-dont fix it. It would be a shame to tear down your tank when it's doing so well.

What number split are we on now? I can't believe how much this thread has split in just 5 months. I'm definitely sure you'll make ThOTM if not TOTM very soon. ;)

I think it's 3 or 4 now... The last 2 splits have happened so fast it's been hard to keep track of everything that has gone on.

A hint about the next split... I'm ditching the intro story, and just going to introduce my tank in it's current state.

I'm just trying to figure out how to organize all the links, threads, and everything in a more user friendly way. Although that part may not be finished by the split.

Also there are a few "special" projects I have in mind, but it will ultimitely depend on how fast the split comes on if they end up making the cut or not.

Nice observation.
